About this role
You write solid backend code and you play an instrument. Now combine the two.
A seed-stage AI startup in San Francisco helps people learn the music they love. Upload any song and its own AI transcribes it in minutes, into notation, guitar tabs, MIDI or a playable piano view. Hundreds of thousands of people use it every month, and it's growing around 30% a month, entirely organically.
The team is small and fast, and they're music people building for music people.
What you'll own
- The backend and infra behind a busy, fast-growing web app
- Keeping it stable and fast: bug fixes and improvements from your first weeks
- Growing into product work after a few months, side by side with the product engineer
- Code you write and reason through yourself, using AI tools as help rather than a replacement
Must-haves
- A real passion for music: you play an instrument and read music. A music project you built, at a hackathon or for fun, is a big plus.
- Full-stack, with your strength on the backend (front-end-only profiles won't fit)
- 2+ years of industry experience after graduating
- You think through problems yourself instead of handing all the thinking to AI
- Working from the San Francisco office, 9-9-5 (relocation is fine)
Bonus points
- Experience at a consumer, music, audio or learning-app company
- A backend system you ran in production at real scale
- A hard production problem you diagnosed and solved yourself
What's in it for you
- $150k–$200k base
- Work that connects directly to your passion
- Full insurance (medical, dental, vision, life), vacation, a gym at the office, and meals provided
- Visa sponsorship available
Good to know
- Full-time, on-site in San Francisco, 9-9-5
- You'll share product ownership with a teammate; this isn't a role where you set the product vision alone
Process: intro call with the CTO technical round (take-home or live) on-site* offer
When you apply, please include
- Your CV (PDF), your LinkedIn URL, and GitHub or a link to something you built
- The instrument you play, and any music project you built
- A backend system you owned in production, and the scale it ran at
- Your current location, and confirmation that on-site San Francisco works for you
- Your visa or citizenship status, and if you'll need sponsorship
- Your base salary expectation, your notice period, and any other interview processes you're in
