We're looking for a Staff Accountant to join our Client Accounting Services team. This position is heavily focused on monthly accounting engagements and helping clients maintain accurate, timely financial records. You'll work directly with multiple businesses, assist with month-end close processes, prepare financial reports, and help clients stay organized throughout the year.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys accounting, likes solving problems, and wants to build strong relationships with business clients.

What You'll Do

Monthly Accounting Services

  • Review and categorize transactions within QuickBooks Online
  • Prepare monthly adjusting journal entries
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Analyze general ledgers and identify errors, inconsistencies, or unusual activity
  • Communicate with clients regarding missing information and accounting questions
  • Help clients improve the quality and accuracy of their financial records

Accounting Cleanup Projects

  • Assist with bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up projects
  • Correct account classifications and historical accounting issues
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve balance sheet discrepancies
  • Help bring client books to a reliable, tax-ready state
  • Work with senior team members to resolve complex accounting matters

Client Support & Operations

  • Follow up with clients regarding requested information
  • Manage client requests and workflows through TaxDome
  • Assist with client onboarding and engagement setup
  • Help monitor project deadlines and deliverables
  • Maintain organized client records and documentation

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or public accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
  • Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close procedures
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and client service skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public accounting experience
  • Experience managing monthly accounting clients
  • Experience with bookkeeping cleanup projects
  • QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification
  • Experience with construction, professional services, or closely held businesses
  • Familiarity with TaxDome and cloud-based accounting systems

What This Role Is

  • A client-facing accounting position
  • Focused primarily on monthly accounting engagements
  • An opportunity to work directly with business owners
  • A position that combines accounting expertise with client service
  • A growth opportunity into senior accounting and advisory work

  • A tax preparation position
  • A traditional corporate accounting role
  • A narrow bookkeeping-only position

Why Richmond CPA

  • Work directly with entrepreneurs and growing businesses
  • High level of autonomy and trust
  • Flexible work environment
  • Modern cloud-based technology stack
  • Exposure to accounting, tax, and advisory services
  • Opportunity to grow as the firm continues to expand

Compensation & Benefits
