About this role
Who We Are
The Parmer Group is a diversified organization headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1972, our businesses span home building, insurance, investment management, and other industries. We combine the stability and long-term perspective of an established organization with an entrepreneurial approach to building businesses, investing in people, and embracing new technologies.
We’re building an investment research management platform currently used by hedge funds, family offices, and investment advisers around the world to organize research, collaborate, and make better investment decisions. We believe AI will fundamentally change how investment professionals research companies, organize information, collaborate, and make decisions.
We're growing our small, talented engineering team to support the existing platform and develop the next generation of AI-powered investment research tools.
A Unique Opportunity
We're looking for a talented Software Engineer who is passionate about building modern software and leveraging artificial intelligence to solve complex problems.
This role combines traditional full stack engineering with hands-on AI development. You'll work across our existing platform while building new capabilities that connect large language models, investment research data, and sophisticated financial workflows.
We're looking for someone who doesn't just use AI tools to write code, but thinks deeply about how AI can fundamentally improve the software we build and the way people use it.
You'll have meaningful ownership across the technology stack, work directly with investment professionals, and help shape the technical direction of our platform.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain full stack applications using modern frontend and backend technologies.
- Develop AI-powered features that integrate large language models into investment research workflows.
- Build and expand MCP integrations, APIs, and tools that allow AI assistants to securely read, write, and interact with platform data.
- Explore and implement agentic AI workflows, including tool calling, multi-step reasoning, and automated research processes.
- Integrate third-party AI models, APIs, and data providers into existing applications.
- Develop systems for retrieving, organizing, and analyzing large volumes of financial documents, research, and structured data.
- Experiment with emerging AI technologies, evaluate their practical applications, and turn promising ideas into reliable production features.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and accelerate software development.
- Collaborate directly with investment professionals to identify opportunities where AI can meaningfully improve their daily workflows.
- Maintain and improve the performance, reliability, security, and scalability of our existing software platform.
- Help shape engineering practices, architecture, and technical priorities as our team grows.
Who You Are
We're looking for a curious, resourceful engineer who enjoys building products, solving challenging problems, and experimenting with emerging technologies.
Qualifications
- Strong experience developing production web applications across the frontend and backend.
- Proficiency with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience developing backend services, REST APIs, and working with relational databases.
- Hands-on experience integrating large language models or AI APIs into software applications.
- Familiarity with LLM tool calling, structured outputs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or agentic workflows.
- Experience using modern AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, deployment, and modern software development practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently take projects from concept to production.
- A willingness to learn, experiment, and adapt as AI technologies continue to evolve.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Go (Golang).
- Experience developing MCP servers, clients, or AI agent integrations.
- Familiarity with AI orchestration frameworks and agent development.
- Experience evaluating LLM outputs, implementing guardrails, and building reliable AI systems.
- Experience with financial software, investment research, or market data.
- Experience maintaining and extending an established production software platform.
Why Join Us?
Build at the forefront of AI. Work on practical applications of large language models, AI agents, and emerging technologies in investment research.
Meaningful ownership. You'll help shape both the existing platform and the next generation of AI-powered capabilities, with significant influence over technical architecture and product development.
Work directly with users. Our investment professionals use the platform in their daily research process. You'll have direct access to users, rapid feedback, and the opportunity to see your work make an immediate impact.
Small team, real responsibility. You'll have the freedom to experiment, solve challenging problems, and take ownership of meaningful projects without unnecessary bureaucracy.
