ADMS System Engineer
Location:
South Plainfield, NJ
Position Overview
The
ADMS System Engineer
will play a key role in the complete technology lifecycle of
Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS)
supporting electric utility grid operations.
The engineer will be responsible for the
design, configuration, development, testing, deployment, integration, troubleshooting, and production support
of ADMS software, hardware, and integrated systems.
This role works closely with
System Operators, Business Analysts, Product Managers, cybersecurity teams, network teams, vendors, and other technical stakeholders
to ensure ADMS solutions meet business, operational, reliability, security, and regulatory requirements.
The position may support both
new ADMS implementation projects and ongoing production operations
, including upgrades, patches, enhancements, integrations, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze business requirements, operational workflows, and end-user needs and translate them into technical designs, system configurations, and implementation plans.
- Support the
implementation, configuration, integration, upgrade, and production support of ADMS platforms
.
- Perform peer reviews of technical designs, configuration settings, implementation plans, code, and deployment artifacts.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform
root cause analysis (RCA)
.
- Develop short-term workarounds and long-term corrective solutions for system issues.
- Monitor ADMS system performance and operational reports to ensure reliability, availability, and service-level requirements.
- Support deployment of new features, modules, upgrades, patches, enhancements, and defect fixes across development, test, and production environments.
- Perform system troubleshooting using
log analysis, configuration validation, trace analysis, and change verification
.
- Support integrations between ADMS and grid operations systems such as:
- SCADA
- OMS
- GIS
- DMS
- Historian systems
- ICCP
- Enterprise data platforms
- Conduct interface and integration testing to ensure data accuracy, availability, and system interoperability.
- Perform Windows and Linux workstation/server patching and maintain environment readiness.
- Configure workstations, applications, servers, and system components based on project and operational requirements.
- Work with technical documentation including network topology diagrams, IP/LAN schemas, firewall configuration documents, server architecture diagrams, and interface specifications.
- Work within virtualized environments, including
VMware vCenter
, for provisioning, monitoring, and maintaining system resources.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, configuration guides, troubleshooting procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.
- Create and manage operational and analytical reports, including
Power BI dashboards
, to support decision-making.
- Provide technical support to system operators and end users, including access issues, configuration questions, login support, password resets, and feature requests.
- Communicate effectively with operations, cybersecurity, network engineering, project teams, vendors, and other stakeholders regarding system status, incidents, deployments, and technical issues.
- Ensure solutions comply with enterprise technology standards, cybersecurity requirements, operational procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have
strong, hands-on ADMS experience within a utility or electric grid environment
, with demonstrated experience across the full ADMS lifecycle—from
implementation and integration through production support, upgrades, troubleshooting, and ongoing system maintenance
.
Candidates who only have general IT systems administration or generic application support experience
without hands-on ADMS/grid operations experience should not be considered
.
