About this role

Accounting Manager

Location: San Jose, CA | On-site

Salary: $120K–$140K

Employment Type: Full-Time

Seniority Level: Manager (Mid-Senior)

Industry: Communications Technology & Safety Solutions

Reports To: Controller

Relay Recruiting is proud to partner with a well-established, mission-driven communications company in California seeking an Accounting Manager to take ownership of the monthly close, lead a growing accounting team, and build the processes and controls that will carry the business into its next stage of growth.

About the Company

With over 30 years in mission-critical communications, this company has been protecting people, property, and productivity since 1992, and they haven't slowed down. Extensive year-over-year growth and a headcount that has doubled in just a few years puts them firmly in growth mode with no signs of stopping.

Their client roster speaks for itself. 5,000+ organizations nationwide trust them when communication cannot fail from NFL stadiums and major concert venues to leading hospital systems and global hotel brands.

As a Motorola Platinum Channel Partner, they deliver a full ecosystem of two-way radio sales, rentals, and service, alongside a growing portfolio in AI video analytics, access control, body-worn cameras, and weapons detection. They aren't just renting radios; they're solving real safety problems at scale.

The culture? Startup energy inside a three-decade business. Fast-moving, all-hands, and high accountability.

Where people know each other, collaborate across departments, and genuinely have each other's backs. The mission here isn't marketing language. It's something the team lives every day.

The Opportunity

This is a brand-new role, and it exists because the business is booming. Sales have compounded at 25–30% a year for the past several years, and accounting is ready to level up to match. As Accounting Manager, you'll own the trial balance and the monthly close, lead a team of three across billing, receivables, and collections, and become the Controller's right hand.

NetSuite went live in May, the basics are running, and now comes the fun part: optimizing the system, tightening internal controls, and getting your fingerprints all over how this team works. Success looks like running a clean close within your first 30 days, mastering the business model by day 90, and driving real process improvements from there. And as the company keeps growing, so does this seat.

There's a clear runway toward Controller for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end close and trial balance, including reconciling inventory, AR, AP, and subledgers to the general ledger, and preparing journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of three across billing, accounts receivable, and collections, setting priorities and keeping the team focused on the accounts that matter most.
  • Oversee customer billing, collections, and AR aging with a sharp focus on bringing past-due accounts current and improving DSO.
  • Provide oversight of accounts payable, and roll up your sleeves on vendor bills or billing when it takes an extra set of hands to close on time.
  • Strengthen internal controls and build accounting procedures and workflows that will scale with a fast-growing business.
  • Serve as a go-to NetSuite resource during the phase-two optimization of a new implementation, partnering with the Oracle team to shape the system around the business.
  • Support Rental Series accounting and billing processes for the company's equipment rental division.
  • Partner with Sales, Rental, Service, and Operations to resolve billing issues and clearly communicate how accounting changes affect the rest of the company.
  • Support quarterly and annual close, budgeting, forecasting, audits, and management reporting.
  • Act as backup to the Controller, freeing up time for cash flow and strategic financial leadership.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with deep, hands-on ownership of the close. You know GAAP, reconciliations, and the trial balance cold, and you know the why behind every entry.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience leading accounting staff, with a track record of building focus and accountability.
  • Strong, hands-on NetSuite experience. This is a must. You can jump in, run an aging report, and navigate the system on day one.
  • A communicator at heart. You keep people across departments in the loop and expect the same from your team.
  • A builder mindset. You see a clunky process or a gap in controls and you fix it, bringing fresh ideas to the table.
  • Comfort wearing multiple hats in a small-to-mid-sized company. This isn't a role where you own one line of the trial balance. You'll see accounting from soup to nuts.
  • Energy for a fast-paced, high-growth environment where there's never a dull moment.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • NetSuite super user status or experience with an ERP implementation or optimization.
  • NetSuite Rental Series experience.
  • A background in equipment sales, rental, service, or distribution, especially with inventory accounting and cycle counts.
  • Experience working directly with external auditors.
  • CPA or CMA designation.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary of $120K–$140K
  • Medical coverage, HMO and PPO options
  • Dental, vision, and life insurance
  • FSA / HSA
  • 401(k) with company match
