About this role

Description

Electrical Engineer I – Manufacturing & Test

Reading Thermal Systems (RTS) | Reading Bakery Systems

Put your electrical engineering knowledge to work on instruments that measure temperature, heat flux, air velocity, and humidity.

RTS is seeking an Electrical Engineer I – Manufacturing & Test to support the manufacture, testing, calibration, and improvement of thermal measurement products, including the SCORPION® data logging system. You’ll work alongside experienced engineering and manufacturing personnel, gain hands-on experience with sensors and electronics, and help ensure products meet established quality and performance requirements.

This early-career opportunity is suited to an electrical engineering graduate who enjoys hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and practical problem-solving.

What You’ll Do

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Outgoing quality assurance — approximately 50%: Test finished products before shipment, document findings, and verify compliance with established procedures.
  • Calibration support — approximately 25%: Calibrate customer data loggers and sensors returned for service.

The remaining 25% of your role will include:

  • Investigating production issues and troubleshooting circuitry, components, firmware, and measurement systems with guidance from experienced engineering staff.
  • Creating and updating test specifications, work instructions, manufacturing records, and training materials.
  • Helping develop, build, and validate production test systems, fixtures, and calibration procedures.
  • Conducting engineering tests and analyzing product accuracy, reliability, and performance.
  • Supporting the transition of prototypes into repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Assisting with component substitutions and engineering changes.
  • Reviewing production and field data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Supporting product assembly, repair, and manufacturing activities as needed.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Foundational knowledge of circuits, printed circuit boards, microprocessors, C programming, and CAD.
  • Hands-on testing and troubleshooting experience from coursework, laboratory work, projects, internships, or employment.
  • Familiarity with hardware and software interfaces used in test equipment or measurement systems.
  • Interest in sensors, instrumentation, physics, and thermal measurement.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, engineering drawings, and technical instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to handle small components and perform fine-pitch soldering and rework.
  • A willingness to learn, follow established procedures, and work collaboratively.

Experience with calibration, embedded firmware, data acquisition, thermal systems, or production fixtures is a plus.

Work Requirements

This position may require overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel. Responsibilities include regularly lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Work may involve production baking environments with high temperatures, humidity, noise, and other manufacturing hazards.

Appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
