Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Operating Room (OR) procedures, where your expertise will directly impact patient outcomes and surgical success. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced, state-of-the-art surgical environment, providing critical nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
As an RN in the OR, you will utilize your advanced clinical skills and comprehensive knowledge of aseptic techniques to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and comfort. Your dedication will help facilitate smooth surgical workflows, support multidisciplinary teams, and uphold our commitment to exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary sterile equipment and supplies are available and properly sterilized.
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, managing suturing, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs continuously using advanced EMR/EHR systems and respond promptly to any changes in patient condition.
- Administer medications including anesthesia, IV infusions, and botulinum toxin treatments with precision and adherence to safety protocols.
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, including physical examinations and patient education on surgical procedures.
- Maintain strict infection control practices, including aseptic technique and proper specimen collection/processing.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately in medical records while complying with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams such as anesthesiology, radiology (including CT imaging), cardiology (including catheterization), and critical care units like ICU or PICU for complex cases.
- Support patients with diverse needs such as trauma medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, behavioral health, or individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Participate in discharge planning and post-operative care to ensure smooth recovery processes for patients across various settings including outpatient surgery centers, hospitals, or long-term care facilities.
Experience
Candidates should possess extensive nursing experience in operating room settings with demonstrated proficiency in OR procedures and sterile techniques. Prior experience working within trauma centers—Level I or Level II—is highly valued, along with familiarity with hospital medicine environments such as ICU or emergency room settings.
A strong background in medical-surgical nursing combined with expertise in advanced practices like airway management, ventilator support, catheterization (including cardiac catheterization), ostomy care, or dialysis is preferred. Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth enhances documentation efficiency.
Additional desirable skills include experience with ICD coding (ICD-9/10), laboratory procedures, pain management strategies—including acute pain management—and familiarity with Workers' Compensation law or hospice & palliative medicine protocols.
Candidates should demonstrate excellent patient assessment abilities, physiology knowledge, and a commitment to infection control standards while working effectively within multidisciplinary teams across inpatient or outpatient environments.
We are seeking energetic professionals eager to deliver compassionate care while embracing continuous learning opportunities in a supportive setting that values innovation and excellence in surgical nursing practices.
