About this role

Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.

Company Overview

Our client is building a new class of modular power systems that deliver reliable, low-cost energy anywhere it’s needed. The platform starts with a proprietary high-efficiency generator core used across our portable and backup hybrid-fuel systems and our compact utility wind turbines — giving customers scalable power without the constraints of traditional solutions.

These systems operate where legacy equipment struggles: low-wind environments, remote sites, fast-growing operations, and markets where power availability limits growth. With faster installation, lower operating cost, and real-time optimization through our control software, we provide dependable power for construction, mission-critical backup, rural communities, and the next generation of AI and industrial load.

The company is reinventing distributed energy — systems that are cleaner, smarter, and resilient by design. Join us as we build the next generation of American-made power.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Principal Full Stack Software Engineer to build the fleet operations platform, the software customers use to monitor and manage the company’s power systems: where each unit is, how it is running, and when it needs fuel or service. The hardware is built and the firmware team already collects the data; this role builds the cloud backend and the web application that turn that data into a product.

This person will be the company’s first dedicated software engineer, working directly with the CTO, the engineering team, and the sales team, and will also take on other software needs as the company grows. This person is the architect, the builder and the inspector: one engineer who designs the system, builds it, and holds it to a production standard.

Key Responsibilities

Backend and Data

  • Design and build the backend services that receive, store and serve data from the company’s power systems in the field.
  • Own the data model and database design, including each unit’s history over time.
  • Build secure, multi-tenant accounts and access controls so each customer sees only its own equipment.
  • Stand up the cloud infrastructure, deployment pipeline, monitoring and security the product runs on.

Web Application

  • Build and ship the customer-facing fleet operations web application: equipment status, map view, alerts, and maintenance and refuelling workflows.
  • Take the current prototype to a production application customers rely on.
  • Own the user experience in the absence of a dedicated designer.

Integrations

  • Build the industry-standard telematics data feed (AEMP 2.0 / ISO 15143-3) that large equipment rental companies require from their suppliers.
  • Build the company’s integration with Procore, the project management platform contractors use to plan jobsite equipment.

Broader Software Needs

  • Scope and deliver software that the product, sales and marketing teams need beyond the fleet operations platform.
  • Set engineering practices for the company’s software: architecture, code review, testing, documentation.
  • Help scope contract engineers and hire the next software engineers.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including several years at a senior level owning production systems end to end.
  • Front-end: strong experience building production web applications with a modern framework (React, Vue or similar) and TypeScript or JavaScript.
  • Back-end: strong experience in a modern server-side language and framework (TypeScript/Node, Python, Go, Java or C#), including API design.
  • Databases: relational database design and query performance (PostgreSQL or similar); experience with high-volume time-series or event data.
  • Cloud: production experience on AWS, Azure or GCP, including infrastructure as code, containers, CI/CD and monitoring.
  • Security: has built authentication, authorization and multi-tenant access.
  • Experience building data ingestion pipelines with message queues or streaming systems.
  • Has shipped a product from prototype to production with a small team.
  • Uses AI development tools as a force multiplier to do a small team’s work.
  • Native mobile application (iOS and Android) experience preferred.
  • Connected hardware, IoT or equipment telematics experience preferred.
  • Clear, direct communicator with engineers, executives and customers.
  • Based in Phoenix, AZ; this is a full-time, on-site role.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and stock options.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision, dental, and life insurance plans.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
  • A mission-driven team building next-generation American-made power.
