About this role
Alive & Kickin' Pizza Crust is seeking a full-time Software Developer. This is our first dedicated development role, created to take ownership of the internal development work our IT department has been absorbing.
You will take technical problems from the IT department and our business analysts and turn them into working solutions — automation scripts, internal web applications, ERP integrations, and Power Automate and AI-assisted workflows that remove manual effort from the business.
Reporting to the IT Director, you will be the sole software developer in the organization and will work closely with our business analysts, data analyst, and the end users who depend on these systems every day. This is a broad role with real autonomy where you will see problems end to end, from requirements through deployment and support.
Key Responsibilities
Problem Intake & Solution Development:
- Take in technical problems and requests from the IT department and business analysts, scope them, and deliver practical solutions.
- Evaluate whether a problem is best solved with a script, a web tool, an ERP customization, a low-code workflow, or a process change — and make that recommendation.
- Own the full lifecycle: requirements, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Identify automation opportunities proactively by observing how teams work, rather than waiting for requests.
Automation & Scripting:
- Design, build, and maintain Python and PowerShell automation that eliminates manual, repetitive work across the business.
- Build and maintain workflows in Microsoft Power Automate, including approvals, notifications, and system-to-system handoffs.
- Apply AI and large language model (LLM) capabilities where they add practical value — for example, using AI APIs and Microsoft Copilot services in Python-based scripts and workflows to classify, summarize, or extract information from unstructured data.
- Schedule, monitor, and support automation running on Windows Server and in Azure.
Internal Web Development:
- Build and maintain internal websites, dashboards, and tools used by staff across the company.
- Deploy and maintain those applications on internal web servers (IIS) and in Azure.
- Apply secure development practices — authentication, authorization, input validation, and least-privilege access.
ERP & Business Systems Integration:
- Integrate custom solutions with our ERP platform, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, and with our MES and other line-of-business systems.
- Build and consume REST APIs to move data reliably between systems.
- Develop, test, and deploy Business Central extensions as needed, and validate existing customizations against Business Central release waves and updates.
- Support our data analyst with data ingestion, pipelines, and transformation work in Microsoft Fabric, and help troubleshoot data quality and pipeline reliability issues.
General IT
Support & Practices:
- Learn our ERP and MES platforms and become a trusted technical resource for both.
- Assist the IT team with general support tasks as needed, such as endpoint issues, Microsoft 365 administration, and user support during busy periods or coverage gaps.
- Follow change management and version control practices and keep technical documentation current.
Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, MIS, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- 2–3 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong, demonstrable proficiency in Python and PowerShell — these are the two primary languages of this role. You should be comfortable writing, debugging, and maintaining production-quality scripts in both for automation, integration, and data work, not just adapting existing examples.
- Working knowledge of Windows Server — roles and features, services and scheduled tasks, file systems and permissions, and basic troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services relevant to application hosting, identity, storage, and integration (for example App Service, Entra ID, SQL, Storage, DevOps).
- Working understanding of computer networking fundamentals — DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewall rules, certificates, and how they affect the applications and integrations you build.
- Experience consuming and building REST APIs, including authentication, JSON handling, and error handling.
- Familiarity with source control (Git) and disciplined development practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — you will be explaining technical work to non-technical people frequently.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn business systems and the operational processes behind them. Genuine curiosity about how the business works is a requirement.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and know when to escalate.
- Proactive — anticipates opportunities and issues, presents solutions, and leads execution.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Lifelong learner and forward thinking.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — enough to build and maintain functional internal web applications.
- Internet Information Services (IIS) — site and application pool configuration, bindings, and certificates.
- Microsoft Power Automate — building and supporting flows in a business environment.
- Working understanding of AI and large language models (LLMs) — prompt design, calling AI APIs from code, and a practical sense of where these tools are appropriate, where they are not, and the data-privacy and security considerations involved.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central development using AL and Visual Studio Code.
- Microsoft Fabric or Power BI experience with data pipelines and reporting.
- Cybersecurity fundamentals and secure coding practices.
- Experience in a manufacturing or food production environment.
