About The Role
Peraton is seeking a Senior Data & Communications Systems Engineer to work onsite at the Stennis Space Center.
The Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (COMNAVMETOCCOM / CNMOC) is beginning the procurement, testing, and evaluation of the Persistent Subsea Autonomous Profiler (PSAP) autonomous, thermal-energy-harvesting platforms collect critical, real-time oceanographic and acoustic data.
What you will do:
- Provide technical coordination, communications systems engineering, and data pipeline implementation
- Responsible for implementing secure data pathways, configuring direct satellite communications pipelines (including Iridium EMSS SBD/RUDICS), establishing secure bi-directional Command and Control (C2) interfaces, and ensuring rapid, automated data dissemination to downstream defense systems
- Provide hands-on Data and Communications systems engineering to build, deploy, and secure data pathing and C2 systems for the PSAP platform to achieve immediate data dissemination. This will require coordinating with the vehicle vendor to utilize their data API, designing and deploying data pipelines to ingest telemetry and sensor data, transforming and loading this data into METOC and USW systems, and establishing downstream dissemination pathways to Maven Smart Systems (MSS) and the Undersea Warfare command and control systems.
- The work will require establishing data pipelines that streamline information exchange on complex legacy networks, configuring secure satellite communication, and implementing the secure, bi-directional telemetry architecture required for active float management and reverse commanding.
Qualifications
What you will need:
- Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D.
- Secret Security Clearance
- Software development expertise with a working knowledge with modern programming languages such as Python, Bash, Rust, JavaScript, etc.
- Critical understanding of Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) data flow especially Undersea Warfare/Decision Support System (USW/DSS)
- Working knowledge of NAVOCEANO’s connectivity data delivery service
- MSS (Maven Smart Systems) visualization, multi-source situational awareness, and associated data flow
- Clear communicator both written and verbally for PSAP Technical Coordinator between CNMOC, NRL, NAVOCEANO and industry partners
Working knowledge for technical project management:
- NMOC- Environmental Research Division’s Data Access Program (N-ERDDAP)
- Systems engineering for building, deploying, and securing data pathing
- Satellite Ingestion working knowledge with Iridium EMSS SBD & RUDICS Pipeline Configuration
- Configurations of secure satellite communication endpoints
- Network Configuration
- Command and Control Integration
- Vendor Technical Integration and Onboarding
- Zero Trust architecture principles
- NetCDF standardized formats

Details
Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
