About The Role

PEI Group is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our engineering team in New York. You'll work closely with engineers across PEI Group build out the next generation of our global infrastructure: the platforms and services that power our application across regions and teams.

This is a hands-on technical role. You'll shape architecture and help set engineering standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate backend services and infrastructure that scale across PEI Group's global footprint
  • Shape system architecture for the next generation of PEI's global platforms and services, working across regions and teams
  • Write clear technical specifications up front and drive work from spec through implementation, testing, and release
  • Partner with product, platform, and engineering leads to translate business needs into well-scoped technical plans
  • Help set and raise engineering standards and best practices across the engineering team
  • Lead design discussions and explain technical trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay hands-on in the codebase, contributing across the stack using languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python
  • Improve the reliability and visibility of services through strong use of observability tooling

About You

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience working with a variety of programming languages including node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python
  • Understanding of observability tooling
  • Strong communication skills: you can write a clear spec, lead a design discussion, and explain trade-offs to non-engineers.
  • Experience with TypeScript, Cloud Platform CWS, infrastructure-as-code, spec-driven development, and Headless CMS is highly desirable.
