About this role

Santa Clara, California, United States of America Product Engineering Ref ID: JR-023652

Our Mission

At Palo Alto Networks®, we’re united by a shared mission—to protect our digital way of life. We thrive at the intersection of innovation and impact, solving real-world problems with cutting-edge technology and bold thinking. Here, everyone has a voice, and every idea counts.

If you’re ready to do the most meaningful work of your career alongside people who are just as passionate as you are, you’re in the right place.

Who We Are

In order to be the cybersecurity partner of choice, we must trailblaze the path and shape the future of our industry. This is something our employees work at each day and is defined by our values: Disruption, Collaboration, Execution, Integrity, and Inclusion. We weave AI into the fabric of everything we do and use it to augment the impact every individual can have.

If you are passionate about solving real-world problems and ideating beside the best and the brightest, we invite you to join us!

We believe collaboration thrives in person. That’s why most of our teams work from the office full time, with flexibility when it’s needed. This model supports real-time problem-solving, stronger relationships, and the kind of precision that drives great outcomes.

Job Summary

  • AI-First Design System Execution: Modernize and scale our design system, component architecture, UI patterns, and data visualization libraries. Actively use AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude, Vibe Coding, MCP integrations) to generate component code and ship directly to Storybook for engineering review and merge.
  • Figma-to-Code Parity & Storybook Ownership: Drive full alignment between Figma variables, design tokens, and production code. Define component architecture (variants, props, and slots) in Storybook so that design system assets are code-native, multi-themed, and production-ready.
  • Enablement & System Evangelism: Act as a force multiplier for the design organization. Lead training, establish guardrails, and build "vibe coding" workflows that empower other designers to move comfortably from Figma to code-assisted prototyping.
  • Proactive Leadership & Bold System Architecture: Make confident, high-craft architectural decisions that solve ~99% of use cases without over-accommodating edge cases or slowing momentum. Experiment with out-of-the-box patterns to eliminate dev handoff friction.
  • System Documentation & Governance: Lead comprehensive, automated documentation across Figma, Storybook, and shared developer tooling to ensure a single, authoritative source of truth across the enterprise platform.
  • Product Context & Platform Contribution: Contribute directly to key platform feature workflows to stay deeply grounded in complex user personas, technology constraints, and real-world system application.

Qualifications

  • 6+ Years of Product / Design Systems Experience: Proven track record of planning, building, and scaling enterprise-grade design systems used by multi-product engineering organizations.
  • Active AI-Native Workflow: Daily hands-on experience using AI development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) to turn design concepts into code, automate workflows, and build functional prototypes.
  • Storybook & Code Responsibility: Comfort taking ownership of components in Storybook and using AI to write clean UI code (React, TypeScript, CSS/HTML) for engineering review, without needing to be a manual syntax expert.
  • Bold Craft & Decisive Judgment: Exceptional visual and interaction craft with a bias for action. Demonstrated ability to make strong architectural calls, balance system purity with pragmatism, and lead through rapid experimentation.
  • Powerful Storytelling: A portfolio featuring deep, end-to-end case studies that clearly articulate the problem solved, the strategic trade-offs, the AI-assisted execution process, and the systemic business impact.
  • Enablement & Mentorship: Demonstrated experience coaching, guiding, or upskilling design peers through process transformations and new tooling adoption.
