Job description

About this role

Oula delivers maternity care built around our patients—offering comprehensive support before, during, and after pregnancy. With fewer C-sections and higher VBAC success rates, our research-backed approach is delivering better outcomes. Our team of trusted midwives, OBGYNs, and dedicated care navigators ensure our patients get the type of care they need in the moments that matter most.

Since launching in 2021, we’ve expanded our services to include Preconception and Miscarriage Care, Pregnancy Care, Postpartum Support, and Gynecology. Today, we serve patients across six clinics in three states, with continued expansion planned for 2027 and beyond. Join our team of clinicians, innovators, operators, and technologists who are passionate about setting a new standard in maternity care.

The Role

We are looking for a People Operations Specialist to join our growing People & Culture team. This person keeps our people processes running smoothly, from signed offer through a new hire’s first months.

As part of this onboarding flow, you will also own clinician credentialing—the process of verifying and approving healthcare providers' licenses, background, and qualifications so they are authorized to care for patients in our clinics and at our hospital partners. Credentialing is a core part of this role from day one, and it is the first thing you will learn.

This is the perfect opportunity for someone who loves bringing order to moving parts and wants to grow with a company expanding into new markets.

Schedule

Full-time, hybrid, based in Brooklyn, NY.

Employment type

Full-time, exempt.

What You'll Do

  • People Operations Coordinate the new hire experience from signed offer through the first 90 days, including onboarding, I-9 and E-Verify, system access, and welcome communications.
  • Support payroll processing, including new hire setup, employee changes, and time and attendance questions.
  • Maintain accurate employee records in our PEO or HRIS and keep onboarding trackers current in Asana.
  • Support benefits and leave administration, including enrollments, state paid leave filings, and carrier coordination.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions on benefits, leave, and policies, escalating when needed.
  • Document and improve repeatable processes as we grow, including support for HR systems projects.
  • Support ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements through accurate documentation and process execution.
  • Lead team recognition messaging, celebrating milestones like birthdays and heritage months across the organization.
  • Spearhead internal engagement programs, team appreciation efforts, and company-wide gatherings.

Clinician Credentialing

Lead clinician credentialing and privileging with health system partners as an integral step in the onboarding lifecycle, guiding providers through document collection and partner verifications to ensure timely start dates. Maintain a live pipeline that shows where every provider stands, what is outstanding, and what could put a start date at risk.

Follow up daily with providers, medical staff offices, and internal partners so nothing stalls. Partner with Revenue Cycle on payer enrollment and give Clinical Operations Managers clear handoffs on when new providers can begin seeing patients. Track reappointments, license renewals, and other ongoing requirements for existing providers.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in People Operations, HR coordination, or onboarding, ideally in healthcare or a startup environment.
  • Working knowledge of payroll, I-9 and E-Verify, and benefits administration.
  • Experience coordinating HR processes such as onboarding, payroll, benefits, leave administration, or employee lifecycle support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and follow-through.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred

Exposure to clinician credentialing, privileging, or provider enrollment strongly preferred. Comfort with Asana or similar project tracking tools. You Are the Perfect Candidate If You Adapt quickly as priorities, sites, and requirements change, and know how to get things done through both formal channels and informal relationships.

Are exceptionally organized and can track many people, deadlines, and details at once without dropping anything. Have a real sense of urgency and follow through. Put people at ease, especially new team members and clinicians working through paperwork and deadlines.

Stay steady when an urgent request lands on an already full day. Are comfortable figuring things out while a process is still being built. Can break complex requirements into clear next steps for others.

Handle confidential information with care and are direct and honest, including when something slips. Seek out feedback and put it into practice quickly.
