About this role

Build the Platforms That Healthcare Depends On

Behind every dependable healthcare application is infrastructure that has to work. Oracle Health’s Core Platform Operations (CPO) team supports the core platforms that help run Millennium, spanning Linux infrastructure, Application Tier, WebSphere, Distributed File Systems, Business Objects, and Citrix.

Our mission is to keep these platforms reliable, secure, and ready for the healthcare organizations that depend on them, while making them easier to maintain and improve.

Our work connects Linux engineering with the behavior of the services running above it. You might trace a performance issue through a server and its middleware dependencies, improve a health check, or turn a repeated maintenance task into reusable automation. Across the team, we use rolling maintenance and canary environments to introduce changes with care.

Current initiatives also include developing maintenance orchestration to reduce manual effort and human error. You’ll collaborate with application, networking, security, and infrastructure partners, learn how the pieces fit together, and help turn difficult operational problems into better engineering.

Your Role

As a Principal Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll manage, maintain, and enhance physical and virtual Linux servers across production and nonproduction environments. You’ll bring deep technical judgment to system configuration, performance tuning, security patching, capacity planning, and complex troubleshooting, while helping shape the standards and tools the team uses every day.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role with technical leadership responsibilities. You’ll guide engineering decisions, mentor colleagues, and turn operational findings into lasting improvements. You’ll also participate in on-call support and serve as an escalation resource for the services within your scope.

Why This

Work Is Worth Doing

If you enjoy following a problem from an application symptom down to the Linux processes, network connections, or resource constraints behind it, there is plenty to explore here. You’ll have opportunities to build useful tools, influence how infrastructure is operated, and see your improvements make daily work better for other engineers.

Bring your curiosity, share what you learn, and help us solve the next problem more effectively than the last.

What You Will Do

  • Engineer and operate Linux infrastructure. Configure, update, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual Linux servers across production and nonproduction environments, with a focus on availability, performance, stability, and security.
  • Guide reliable design. Evaluate infrastructure configurations and service dependencies, identify failure points, and recommend practical improvements to reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Understand and improve performance. Analyze CPU, memory, storage, filesystem, process, and network behavior. Forecast resource needs, investigate bottlenecks, and tune systems using measured results.
  • Strengthen monitoring. Improve metrics, logging, health checks, and actionable alerts. Use service trends and service-level objectives to identify degradation and prioritize engineering work.
  • Resolve complex incidents. Apply a methodical approach to diagnosis across operating systems, applications, networking, storage, and related dependencies. Coordinate with partner teams to restore service and communicate findings clearly.
  • Prevent recurring failures. Perform root cause analysis and post-incident reviews. Translate findings into corrective actions, better diagnostics, runbooks, and engineering improvements.
  • Maintain secure systems. Apply security patches and updates, remediate vulnerabilities, strengthen configurations and access controls, and maintain compliance with applicable security standards and policies.
  • Make production changes safely. Plan maintenance, assess dependencies and risk, prepare rollback procedures, and validate system and application behavior after changes.
  • Automate repeatable work. Develop, test, document, and maintain Bash, Python, Ansible, or comparable automation for configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery. Use version control and peer review to keep changes traceable and maintainable.
  • Support application delivery. Partner with developers, network engineers, security teams, and other IT staff on deployments, environment readiness, connectivity, and server-related requirements.
  • Improve resilience and recovery. Help validate backup, restore, and recovery procedures for assigned systems, and address gaps that could delay service restoration.
  • Build team capability. Maintain architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and change records. Mentor colleagues, share knowledge, and communicate technical risks and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to dependable support coverage. Participate in on-call rotations and planned maintenance, provide escalation support for assigned services, and improve the documentation and tooling that make support more effective.

What You Will Bring

  • Extensive hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Linux systems in production, including physical and virtual server environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux internals, system services, processes, permissions, filesystems, logs, and resource utilization, with the ability to investigate performance and stability issues.
  • Practical scripting and automation experience with Bash, Python, Ansible, or comparable tools, including testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining reusable solutions.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, ports, certificates, and connectivity troubleshooting across application and infrastructure dependencies.
  • Experience with security patching, vulnerability remediation, secure configuration, access controls, and production change management.
  • Experience monitoring system health, responding to incidents, investigating root causes, and implementing improvements that reduce recurring problems.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through sound engineering decisions, cross-team collaboration, mentoring, and clear documentation.
  • A curious, methodical approach to problem solving and the ability to explain findings, tradeoffs, risks, and next steps to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Experience That Would Help You Get Started

  • Experience supporting Oracle Health, Millennium, Cerner applications, or other healthcare or regulated production environments.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or other cloud platforms, hybrid environments, and infrastructure modernization.
  • Familiarity with middleware and application hosting, including WebSphere or WebLogic, and the Linux infrastructure those services depend on.
  • Experience with configuration management, infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, REST APIs, observability, or resilience and recovery testing.
