Software Engineer
Optical Zonu Corp. is a telecommunications equipment manufacturer specializing in RF-over-Fiber transceiver and system solutions for satellite communications, telecom, military, academic, and other demanding applications.
We are seeking a Software Engineer to develop applications that connect our hardware products to production, engineering, customers, and internal systems. The role focuses primarily on Python-based applications for configuring, monitoring, testing, and diagnosing our equipment.
The ideal candidate is a practical software engineer who enjoys working across hardware and software boundaries. This is a hands-on role with significant autonomy and the opportunity to improve our engineering and production processes through software automation and emerging AI technologies.
Responsibilities
- Develop Python applications with intuitive graphical user interfaces for production, engineering, and customer use
- Develop software to configure, monitor, test, and diagnose hardware products
- Integrate applications with databases and existing company systems
- Develop automated test, diagnostic, and production-support tools
- Test, debug, document, and release reliable, maintainable software
- Work with production and QA personnel to develop procedures and train users on software tools
- Collaborate with firmware, electrical, production, and other software engineers
- Develop automation and AI-assisted tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing maintainable applications
- Experience developing graphical user interfaces using Qt or a similar frameworks
- Experience interfacing software with hardware, instruments, or external systems
- Strong software-engineering fundamentals, including design patterns, modular design, abstraction, testing, debugging, and maintainability
- Experience with databases and structured data
- Systematic approach to problem solving and debugging
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing production, manufacturing, test, or diagnostic applications
- Experience developing applications in Linux in C
- Experience with Git, JIRA, and collaborative software development tools
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
- Experience with automated testing or validation systems
- Exposure to AI/LLM tools, agents, or workflow automation

Pay: $100,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
