Job description

About this role

This role is the bridge between the office and the roof. Our Operations Manager plans the work; the Field Operations Manager makes sure it happens on the ground, every day, the right way.

You will be on job sites daily, not behind a desk. You will see problems before they become callbacks, make decisions on the spot, and keep crews supplied, scheduled and informed. You will work hand in hand with the Operations Manager and the Chief Growth and Operations Officer to tighten how jobs run, cut rework and missteps, and build the field systems that let Okler scale.

This is a leadership role for a roofer who has done the work, knows how to run crews, and wants to own field execution for a growing company.

Key responsibilitiesDaily job site oversight

  • Visit every active job site daily to check progress, workmanship, safety and site cleanliness.
  • Verify work matches the contract scope, manufacturer specifications and local code before crews move on.
  • Catch quality issues early and direct corrections on the spot to prevent callbacks and warranty claims.
  • Run pre-start walkthroughs on new jobs and final inspections and punch lists at completion.
  • Document each site visit with photos and notes in the company's job management system.

Crew scheduling and coordination

  • Build and adjust the daily and weekly crew schedule with the Operations Manager.
  • Match crews to jobs based on scope, skill level, crew size, location and weather.
  • Re-sequence work quickly when weather, material delays, inspections or customer requests change the plan.
  • Coordinate subcontractor crews alongside in-house crews so both are scheduled, supplied and held to the same standard.
  • Give the office a reliable end-of-day status on every job so customers and sales get accurate updates.

Problem solving and change orders

  • Be the first call when something goes wrong in the field: hidden rot or deck damage, wrong materials, equipment failure, customer concerns.
  • Identify, scope and document change orders on site with photos and measurements, and route them to the Operations Manager and sales for pricing and customer approval before extra work starts.
  • Handle schedule changes and communicate them to crews, the office and, where appropriate, the customer.
  • Escalate safety, legal or major cost issues to the Operations Manager and CGOO right away.

Crew leadership and communication

  • Lead superintendents, foremen and crews day to day: set expectations, hold people accountable, and coach them to improve.
  • Hold short daily or weekly crew huddles on priorities, safety and quality.
  • Serve as the clear line of communication between the office and the field so instructions are not lost or contradicted.
  • Help onboard and train new field hires on Okler's installation standards and safety practices.
  • Give input on field hiring, performance reviews and discipline.

Materials, equipment and logistics

  • Deliver equipment, tools, supplies and materials to job sites as needed to keep crews working.
  • Confirm material deliveries match the order before work starts; flag shortages, damage and wrong items.
  • Track equipment and tool location and condition; coordinate repairs and replacements.
  • Reduce material waste and manage leftover materials and returns.
  • Coordinate dumpsters, lifts, rentals and site access.

Safety and compliance

  • Enforce Okler's safety program and OSHA/MIOSHA fall protection requirements on every site, every day.
  • Make sure crews have and use required PPE and fall protection, and that equipment is inspected.
  • Correct unsafe conditions immediately and stop work when needed.
  • Report and help investigate incidents and near misses.

Operational improvement

  • Work with the Operations Manager and CGOO to find the root cause of recurring mistakes and fix the process, not just the symptom.
  • Help build and maintain field checklists, standards and procedures.
  • Track and report key field metrics (see What success looks like).
  • Bring forward ideas to improve productivity, quality and customer experience.

QualificationsRequired

  • 8+ years of hands-on roofing experience, including at least 3 years leading crews as a foreman, superintendent or field manager.
  • Expert knowledge of residential and commercial roofing systems: asphalt shingle, metal, and low-slope systems (TPO, EPDM, modified bitumen).
  • Strong working knowledge of tear-off, decking, underlayment, ice and water shield, flashing, ventilation and manufacturer installation requirements.
  • Able to spot workmanship and code problems at a glance and explain the fix to a crew.
  • Proven ability to schedule multiple crews across multiple job sites and adjust on the fly.
  • Experience identifying and documenting change orders in the field.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA fall protection and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Clear, direct communicator who can lead crews firmly and respectfully and stay calm under pressure.
  • Comfortable with a smartphone, tablet and job management or scheduling software (training provided on our systems).
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record; able to haul trailers and materials.
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen.

Preferred

  • Manufacturer certifications (for example GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed) or installer training on major low-slope systems.
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification.
  • Experience managing subcontractor crews.
  • Experience with insurance and storm restoration work.
  • Familiarity with roofing in Upper Midwest conditions: snow load, ice damming, short seasons.
  • Experience with Knowify or similar construction management software.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.

Benefits:
