Job description
About this role
Job Overview
The Assistant Controller strengthens financial operations through accurate accounting, clear reporting, and disciplined compliance. You’ll support financial management across general ledger accounting, corporate accounting, and financial accounting, helping leaders make informed decisions.
Your impact
Reliable financial reporting helps stakeholders understand results and meet regulatory obligations.
Duties
- Prepare financial statements, regulatory reports, and written financial reports; interpret results and perform financial analysis, including cash flow analysis and forecasting.
- Manage journal entries, accrual accounting, double-entry bookkeeping, debits and credits, account analysis, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Complete balance sheet, bank, and account reconciliations; investigate discrepancies and maintain accurate records.
- Support financial compliance and regulatory compliance accounting, applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and relevant requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
- Use financial software and accounting software to analyze spreadsheets and Excel data, including Microsoft Excel’s VLOOKUP function; support systems such as QuickBooks, Quicken, and PeopleSoft.
- Mentor accounting team members and contribute to corporate finance and technical accounting projects.
Experience
- The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working at the detail level—reconciling accounts, reviewing journal entries, and resolving close issues—as they are improving processes, developing accounting policies, supporting audits, building a team, and creating scalable financial infrastructure.
- Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Program Management to ensure accurate accounting for inventory, work in process, standard costs, purchase commitments, and capital assets.
- Participate in cross-functional projects, systems implementations, financing activities, acquisition diligence, and other strategic initiatives as needed.
- Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Active CPA license required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public-accounting experience at a Big Four firm in audit, assurance, transaction services, or a related accounting-advisory practice.
- Proven ownership of core accounting operations, including month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger, reconciliations, internal controls, audit readiness, and process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with aerospace, defense, government contracting, project accounting, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience implementing or optimizing an ERP system, including NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with FAR, CAS, DCAA, government-contracting, or defense-finance requirements.
Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
