Senior Backend Engineer — Python / FastAPI

Halen is looking for an experienced **Senior Backend Engineer** to join our engineering team as we prepare our rideshare and delivery platform for launch.

You’ll work on our backend services, APIs, databases, testing, and cloud infrastructure, with a strong focus on building reliable and scalable microservices.

**What You'll Work On**

• Build and maintain asynchronous microservices using **Python and FastAPI**
• Design and maintain REST APIs for our mobile and web applications
• Work with **SQLAlchemy ORM** and **PostgreSQL/SQLite**
• Build data models and relationships using **SQLModel**
• Create and maintain database migrations using **Alembic**
• Write reliable unit and integration tests using **pytest**
• Work with Git\-based repositories, branches, pull requests, and code reviews
• Deploy and troubleshoot backend services in **AWS**
• Work comfortably in **Linux environments**, including running scripts, services, logs, and command\-line tools
• Collaborate with Flutter, frontend, DevOps, QA, and other backend engineers
• Review existing backend services and help improve performance, reliability, and scalability

**What We're Looking For**

Strong hands\-on experience with:

• Python
• FastAPI and asynchronous programming
• Microservices architecture
• SQLAlchemy
• SQLModel and database relationships
• PostgreSQL and SQLite
• Alembic database migrations
• pytest / automated testing
• Git and Git\-based development workflows
• AWS
• Linux

Experience building **production\-grade APIs and microservices** is important. Experience with high\-volume, real\-time, rideshare, delivery, logistics, mapping, or marketplace platforms is a plus.

**Compensation \& Commitment**

This is currently a **part\-time, equity\-compensated role**, approximately **10–15 hours per week with a flexible schedule**. You’ll receive shares in Halen for your contribution during this stage.

We’re actively fundraising, with the goal of transitioning the role into a **full\-time salaried position once funding is secured**.
