Optical System Engineer Co-Op

**Duration:** 4 months

**Location:** Onsite in Murray Hill, NJ

**EDUCATIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS**

Currently a candidate for a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field with an accredited school.

• Perform optical simulations and modal analyses, including wave propagation, resonator design, AWGs, and laser cavity modeling.
• Conduct RF circuit simulations and characterize high\-speed components using S\-parameters and driver modeling.
• Develop lab automation tools using Python, AI frameworks, FPGAs, Red Pitayas, Arduinos, and automated wafer\-probing systems.
• Carry out hands\-on experimentation in optical labs, including optical alignment, device characterization, and testing of high\-speed communication hardware.
• Analyze, summarize, and present results; prepare technical papers for conferences and journals; and collaborate with experts across photonics, optical networks, and electronics.
• Hands\-on experience testing electro\-optic and photonic devices in laboratory environments.
• Knowledge of optical waveguides, modulators, detectors, and related device physics.
• Knowledge of electrical circuitry and its interaction with photonic components.
• Experience working with free\-space optical systems and alignment techniques.
• Familiarity with passive optical devices, including filters, resonators, and interferometer networks.
• Proficiency with simulation tools for waveguide modeling and optical circuit design.
