Interactive Designer

Title: Interactive Designer (Design Systems)

Position Type: 8+ Months Contract

Location: Santa Monica, CA

Pay Rate: $115–121/hr. on W2

We’re looking for a Senior Design Systems Designer to help build and maintain a mobile design system. You’ll work closely with Design Engineering, Product Design, and Engineering teams to define the foundations, components, and guidelines that support consistent, high-quality product experiences across iOS and Android.

What You’ll Do

• Design and specify components, including variants, states, and behaviors across iOS and Android.
• Expand and maintain foundational design styles and tokens, including color, typography, and spacing, with clear naming conventions and consistent scales.
• Develop and maintain the Figma component library, ensuring alignment with production code.
• Partner with Design Engineers to define component specifications that translate into production-ready code.
• Create clear usage guidelines and documentation for designers, engineers, and AI tools.
• Collaborate closely with Product Design and Design Engineering teams to improve the design system.
• Review how the design system is applied across product work and provide practical feedback to designers and engineers.
• Communicate design system decisions effectively to leadership, design peers, and engineering teams.
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate design, prototyping, auditing, and documentation.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Strong systems-thinking skills, balancing design consistency with the practical needs of product teams.
• Excellent visual design and interaction design skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Deep knowledge of Figma, including components, variants, variables, and library management.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain design system decisions clearly and gain alignment across teams.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability for design quality and system consistency.

Minimum Qualifications

• BS/BA degree or equivalent years of work experience.
• Strong portfolio showcasing design work, including design systems experience.
• 5+ years of experience designing mobile applications.
• 2+ years of experience building, maintaining, or contributing to a design system.
• Experience designing for both iOS and Android platform conventions.
• Experience collaborating with engineers on component specifications and implementation in code.
