New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH)
Administrative Services Division (ASD) - The Enterprise Reporting Unit is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing the organization¿s portfolio of Power BI reports and dashboards. Our team works closely with stakeholders to understand their data needs, gather detailed requirements, and translate their analytical goals into effective visual reporting solutions.
We manage the full life cycle of report development, from initial consultation through deployment and ongoing support. This includes identifying and validating data sources, designing intuitive visual layouts, and ensuring that reports align with each stakeholder¿s strategic objectives.
Overall, the Enterprise Reporting Unit provides reliable, data¿driven insights that help the organization monitor performance, make informed decisions, and transform raw data into actionable information.
Why does the job exist? This position exists to expand the organization's ability to turn complex, distributed data into accurate, timely, and actionable insights. As the demand for high-quality reporting grows, the Enterprise Reporting Unit requires a senior level data analyst who can lead advanced analytical work, partner directly with stakeholders, and ensure the integrity and scalability of our reporting ecosystem.
The role strengthens our capacity to design, build, and maintain sophisticated Power BI solutions, automate data pipelines using Python, and create reliable data refresh processes within the Power BI Service. This position also ensures that programs across the organization receive expert guidance in understanding their data, interpreting trends, and shaping their reporting needs.
Ultimately, this position exists to support data informed decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the overall quality and impact of the organization's enterprise reporting assets.
How does it get done?
Key Responsibilities¿ Lead the design, development, and maintenance of advanced Power BI reports and dashboards that deliver clear, actionable insights for program stakeholders.¿ Conduct stakeholder meetings to gather requirements, understand program goals, and translate analytical needs into effective reporting solutions.¿ Build, optimize, and document data pipelines, including the automation of data extraction, transformation, and refresh processes within the Power BI Service.
While experience with Python is helpful, it is not required; team members can learn Python-based automation after joining the unit.¿ Ensure data quality, integrity, and reliability across all reporting assets by performing thorough validation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of data processes.¿ Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improved decision-making; provide expert interpretation and guidance to stakeholders.¿ Collaborate with IT, data governance, and program teams to ensure alignment on data sources, standards, and reporting best practices.¿ Monitor and manage Power BI Service workloads, data refresh schedules, dataset performance, and workspace configurations.¿ Develop repeatable processes, templates, and documentation to support scalability, maintainability, and knowledge sharing within the Enterprise Reporting Unit.
Who are the customers? The job is performed for the Enterprise Reporting Unit and the broader organization it supports, serving program stakeholders, department leadership, and internal teams, and department operations. These groups rely on accurate, timely, and well¿designed reporting solutions to monitor performance, interpret data trends, and make informed, data¿driven decisions.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a thoughtful, adaptable, and analytically driven professional who excels at transforming complex data into meaningful insights. They have strong experience designing and maintaining high¿quality Power BI reports, with a solid understanding of both the M language (Power Query) and DAX to build efficient data models and calculations.
They work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into effective reporting solutions. They bring a strong foundation in data analysis, data modeling, and validation practices, and they are comfortable working with large or complex datasets.
While familiarity with Python and automated data workflows is beneficial, it is not a requirement; the ideal candidate is a quick learner who can acquire these skills after joining the team. Equally important, they communicate clearly, collaborate effectively with program stakeholders, and approach their work with curiosity, problem¿solving ability, and a commitment to accuracy and reliability.
This person thrives in an environment where they can improve processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and contribute to a modern, scalable enterprise reporting ecosystem.
