Software Engineer, AI and Application Engineering
Onsite: Macon, GA | Washington, DC | Kansas City, KS
Mission Recruit is hiring a Software Engineer for our government client to design, build, and support modern, intelligent applications for federal retirement systems. This role blends full stack web application engineering with hands on AI and machine learning development. You will build the systems that serve federal employees and retirees, and the AI capabilities that make those systems smarter over time.
This position is funded through September 30, 2027, with continuation anticipated but not guaranteed.
Core Technologies
- Frontend:
React, Vue.js, or equivalent JavaScript framework
- Backend:
ASP.NET Core Web API, TypeScript, Java (Spring Framework)
- Data and AI:
SQL Server, Databricks, Python, AI agents and LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, or open source models)
- Cloud:
Azure (App Services, Functions, Key Vault), CI/CD via Git and GitHub Actions
What You Will Do
- Build modular, responsive, accessible web applications in React and/or Vue.js
- Design secure, scalable APIs using TypeScript, ASP.NET Core, or Java with Spring
- Integrate with enterprise systems via SOAP and REST APIs
- Optimize database performance with SQL Server and Entity Framework Core
- Design AI agents and LLM powered applications that automate retirement data workflows
- Build and maintain ML models for classification, prediction, and anomaly detection
- Integrate LLMs into production using prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic frameworks
- Develop data pipelines for large scale structured and unstructured data
- Apply explainable AI practices suited to a regulated, auditable environment
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and release planning
What You Bring
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field (required)
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Expert proficiency in one or more core languages and frameworks
- Strong SQL Server skills; familiarity with EF Core
- Hands on experience building or deploying LLM based solutions
- Familiarity with agentic AI patterns, RAG pipelines, vector databases, and embeddings
- Experience leading major initiatives or solving complex architecture challenges is a plus
Requirements

- Must report onsite to one of the client offices in Macon, GA, Washington, DC, or Kansas City, KS
- Must complete a federal background investigation, which includes a conversation with your current supervisor
