Job Overview

As a Physician Assistant, you’ll assess patients, support diagnosis and treatment, and coordinate care across clinical settings. You’ll gather histories, perform physical examinations, interpret diagnostic tests, document care in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, and communicate next steps clearly. The role may support inpatient, outpatient, urgent, emergency, primary, or specialty care, depending on the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Develop care plans, administer medications and injections, support acute pain management, and prescribe medications within applicable regulations and collaborative practice agreements.
  • Perform procedures such as suturing using aseptic technique; support airway management, ventilator care, catheterization, and other acute care needs when within scope and training.
  • Coordinate referrals, discharge planning, patient education, and follow-up with healthcare professionals; protect patient privacy under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Your impact: Timely assessment and coordinated treatment help patients receive appropriate care and give clinical teams clear information for next steps.

Skills

  • Essential: Physician Assistant qualification and applicable licensure; patient assessment, healthcare diagnosis, medical treatment knowledge, physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, basic life support, and clear client communication.
  • Essential: EMR/EHR (electronic health record) documentation, data management, infection control, and familiarity with International Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding.
  • Preferred: Experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, intensive care unit (ICU), pediatrics, geriatrics, primary care, occupational health, hospice and palliative medicine, or post-acute care.
