Accountant

Metro Credit Union, a successful and growing financial institution, is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, preferably within a financial institution, along with excellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

This individual should be organized, capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines, and comfortable communicating and collaborating with employees at all levels of the organization.

Position responsibilities include:

• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks.
• Verify the accuracy of invoices and process accounts payable in an accurate and timely manner, paying close attention to due date and potential variances.
• Prepare monthly journal entries, including, but not limited to fixed assets, complete monthly reconciliations, and assist with monthly financial month-end close process.
• Research and reconcile multiple accounts to ensure their accuracy with minimal supervision.
• Analyze account activity and provide information and assistance to department managers and external auditors.
• Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports within prescribed time frames and with zero errors.
• Assist with the preparation of various governmental regulatory reports on a quarterly basis.
• Ensure all accounting transactions are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP and Credit Union policies.
• Exercise judgment in financial, operational, and transactional analysis to identify and help resolve issues.
• Handle multiple activities simultaneously and ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks while seeking ways to improve individual and departmental efficiency.
• Perform various other duties as required by Management.

Qualifications include:

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• Previous accounting experience required; 3–5 years preferred.
• A demonstrated understanding of GAAP.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and detail oriented.
• Experience with automated data processing systems.
• Knowledge of financial industry accounting software general ledger packages a plus.
