The Team You Will Join Join the nation’s largest non-medical carrier of group insurance, where your work will impact over 55,000 customers and cover more than 50 million employees and family members. As part of MetLife’s Group Benefits team, you’ll deliver innovative benefits solutions - life, disability, dental, vision, and voluntary benefits - tailored to today’s employers and workforces.

Collaborate with customers, brokers, and partners to expand our offerings and reimagine digital experiences. Join us and be part of an organization committed to supporting customers when they need us most.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead the product vision for AI Automation within the Disability Solution Train, maximizing the business value delivered by the ART’s automation and AI teams.

This is a transformational leadership role at the intersection of disability claims operations and agentic AI: you will set the strategic direction for how intelligent agents, large language models, and orchestration platforms eliminate manual work, accelerate claim decisions, and reshape how our operations function.

You will own the AI product roadmap and serve as the formal people manager for a team of Product Owners — experienced professionals in their own right — across the AI Automation, AI Foundation, Analytics, and RPA teams, with accountability for their performance, coaching, and development.

You will partner closely with the Engineering AVP and Engineering Directors, who manage the broader engineering staff on these teams, to ensure product strategy and engineering execution stay aligned. You will also serve as the primary bridge between Claims Operations leadership and the engineering teams building AI-powered automation.

The ideal candidate has personally experimented with LLMs and agentic frameworks, follows what the major AI labs and the open-source community are shipping, and has formed a grounded point of view on where AI creates genuine operational value versus hype.

The Product Manager is supported by a Product Management Associate, who partners closely to translating roadmap priorities into elaborated requirements and delivery-ready features.

Eligible candidates should be prepared to work Eastern Time Zone hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the identification, prioritization, and sequencing of AI automation opportunities across the full claim lifecycle, owning the AI product roadmap and robotics-to-AI transition plan while balancing quick wins with transformational initiatives.
  • Design human-in-the-loop workflows that pair AI agents with human judgment on high-stakes claims decisions, defining confidence thresholds, escalation triggers, and error handling to ensure operational trust in AI-driven outcomes.
  • Build trust-based relationships with operations leadership, observe claims workflows firsthand, and serve as a thought leader and storyteller for the transformation, regularly presenting data-backed impact narratives to senior leadership.
  • Directly manage, coach, and develop Product Owners while partnering closely with engineering leaders and solution architects to evaluate AI capabilities against real operational needs and ensure technical proposals solve genuine business problems.
  • Ensure each Program Increment focuses on the highest-value features aligned with the roadmap and portfolio OKRs, track delivery against operational KPIs, communicate trade-off decisions in business terms, and maintain hands-on engagement with AI tools, agentic frameworks, and the broader AI landscape.

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of professional experience in insurance or financial services.
  • 5+ years of experience leading products, platforms, or capabilities through strategy, delivery, launch, and continuous improvement, with 5+ years of formal people management experience coaching and developing senior product professionals, and 3-5 years working within SAFe or an equivalent scaled agile delivery framework.
  • Demonstrated experience driving operational transformation and process improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes in dollars, cycle time, and associate experience, combined with active personal engagement with the AI industry landscape and fluency in what major AI labs and the open-source community are shipping.
  • Excellent storytelling and executive communication skills with the ability to deliver compelling AI transformation narratives to non-technical senior audiences, combined with a proven ability to lead through ambiguity, influence senior engineering and operations leaders outside of formal reporting lines, and directly manage and develop the Product Owner team.
  • Ability to lead AI adoption and redesign work to coordinate human and AI contributions with clear usage expectations and appropriate evaluation rigor based on risk and complexity.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of disability claims operations — intake, eligibility, adjudication, payment, and ongoing claim management — at the ground level (not just the systems).
  • Prior experience in Group Benefits with the following products: Life, Accident, Dental, Vision, Short and/or Long-Term Disability.
  • Advanced degree or recognized product, Agile, data, or AI certification.

The expected salary range for this position is $112,000 - $149,300. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.

Benefits

  • We Offer Our U.S. benefits address holistic well-being with programs for physical and mental health, financial wellness, and support for families.
  • We offer a comprehensive health plan that includes medical/prescription drug and vision, dental insurance, and no-cost short- and long-term disability.
  • We also provide company-paid life insurance and legal services, a retirement pension funded entirely by MetLife and 401(k) with employer matching, group discounts on voluntary insurance products including auto and home, pet, critical illness, hospital indemnity, and accident insurance, as well as Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and digital mental health programs, parental leave, paid time off, paid holidays, volunteer time off, tuition assistance and much more!
