This position requires approximately 50% travel, including occasional short-notice and overnight assignments.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site assessments of damaged equipment, identify repair requirements, and evaluate practical repair alternatives.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses, including stress analysis and FEA as appropriate, to support repair designs and procedures.
- Develop repair plans, material specifications, fabrication drawings, and installation procedures considering loads, manufacturability, safety, and site constraints.
- Prepare technical documentation, repair proposals, material requirements, and cost estimates for clients.
- Provide technical support to clients and field technicians, and supervise in-situ machining, welding, and other specialized repair work.
- Check engineering calculations, drawings, and other work products for accuracy and completeness prior to review or submission.
- Ensure repairs are performed in accordance with applicable safety requirements, specifications, and Metalock quality standards.
- Maintain accurate project records, including work performed, materials used, and time spent.
- Communicate effectively with clients and field personnel to coordinate work, explain repair recommendations, and address project concerns.
- Travel to client sites regularly, sometimes on short notice, and work safely in industrial environments.
- Maintain and care for company tools and equipment; pursue improvements in workflow and facilities.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development, with increasing responsibility for project execution and technical decisions.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including statics, mechanics of materials, stress analysis, machine design, material properties, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and producing and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of FEA, including appropriate loading and boundary conditions and interpretation of results (Autodesk Inventor and Inventor Nastran preferred).
- Practical understanding of machining, welding, fabrication methods, and mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to unfamiliar problems, evaluate solutions, and verify the accuracy of technical work.
- Strong initiative, attention to detail, analytical ability, and communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time and work independently with appropriate engineering oversight.
- Valid driver's license and driving record acceptable for operating company vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with field engineering, industrial equipment repair, mechanical design, or industrial maintenance.
- Experience with mechanical failure analysis, bolted and welded connections, or repair of industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and procedures.
- 3D scanning and 3D printing experience.
- Passed FE exam, Engineer Intern certification, or progress toward PE licensure.
