About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions of a growing healthcare insurance organization.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in the health insurance industry, a strong understanding of both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), and a proven track record of leading accounting teams in highly regulated environments.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, improving operational efficiencies, and supporting the organization's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the accounting department, overseeing daily operations, financial reporting, and team performance.
  • Oversee statutory financial statements, SAP compliance, and regulatory reporting to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR).
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, SAP, applicable tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and financial performance reports for executive leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal financial controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee payroll processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Monitor revenues, expenditures, and financial performance against established budgets.
  • Partner with the CFO and senior leadership on short- and long-term financial planning and operational strategies.
  • Identify financial risks, process improvements, and opportunities for greater operational efficiency.
  • Ensure accounting practices remain aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor, develop, and lead a high-performing accounting team.

Required Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • At least 5 years in a senior-level accounting or finance management role.
  • Previous experience working with a health insurance plan required.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, tax compliance, banking processes, and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience managing payroll and improving accounting processes.
  • Proven ability to lead accounting teams and manage complex financial projects.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a financial leader who combines technical accounting expertise with a practical, hands-on approach to managing financial operations.

The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly regulated healthcare environment, managing competing priorities, and communicating financial information effectively to executive leadership.

Experience with health plan financial reporting, statutory accounting, and Florida OIR regulatory requirements is especially important for success in this role.
