AI Backend Engineer

River City Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a client, a growth stage enterprise AI software company. This is a direct hire role with our client. River City Consulting is the recruiting partner, not the employer.

Location

San Francisco, CA, in office 4 days per week (Wednesdays flexible)

Base salary: $201,000 to $240,000

Equity: offered, separate from base

What you will do

Design, build, test, and deploy backend services for an AI agent platform: ingestion, storage, APIs, background processing, and deployment

Build AI orchestration pipelines with structured outputs, tool calling, state management, and guardrails

Build for enterprise security: least privilege access, tenant isolation, and auditability

Turn ambiguous product asks into clean technical specs with guidance from senior engineers

What you need

1 to 3 years shipping production backend systems, or a new graduate with a strong portfolio of real execution

Solid backend fundamentals: services, APIs, data models, reliability, observability, and security

At least one meaningful AI powered project shipped (production, open source, or a serious side project)

Willingness to contribute across the stack, backend leaning

Ability to work in the San Francisco office 4 days per week (relocation support available)

Nice to have

LLM pipelines, evals, or agentic workflows in production

Enterprise security experience

Work authorization: the client accepts H-1B transfer, O-1, and OPT.

Pay: $201,000.00 - $240,000.00 per year
