Job description

About this role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will lead mechanical design initiatives starting from the initial concept phase all the way to final production. Your primary focus will involve developing mechanisms and packaging solutions for both electronic devices and more complex, box-level systems. We are seeking a practical, hands-on professional rather than a niche analyst.

The ideal candidate has successfully navigated the entire product development lifecycle, understands the real-world impact of their engineering choices, and possesses the expertise to create designs that are truly manufacturable.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage the full mechanical design lifecycle from initial ideation to prototyping, while maintaining close cooperation with internal teams and external partners.
  • Develop robust packaging and mechanical mechanisms for everything from small electronics to large-scale production assemblies.
  • Produce high-quality 3D models and precise engineering documentation using Creo.
  • Ensure all parts are optimized for production by applying a deep understanding of machining and fabrication techniques.
  • Work alongside hardware and electrical teams to ensure seamless mechanical integration within complete systems.
  • Represent the engineering team during client-facing design reviews and project status meetings.
  • Apply knowledge of MIL-STDs (461, 810) or equivalent ruggedized design standards from the medical or automotive sectors to guide your design choices.

Professional Background

  • We are looking for a mid-level professional who has managed projects from inception through field deployment, rather than someone who has only handled isolated project segments.
  • You must have a proven history of developing products from the ground up, as we are not seeking individuals who only perform modifications to existing designs.
  • Experience in ruggedized product design is essential; while defense or aerospace backgrounds are advantageous, we also value experience in medical devices or automotive engineering.
  • You should be proficient in Creo or SolidWorks, with a willingness to adapt to our primary CAD platform.
  • Practical knowledge of CNC machining and fabrication limitations is prioritized over specialized expertise in processes like injection molding.
  • While not a daily requirement, any background in thermal analysis or FEA is considered a beneficial asset.
  • We are seeking a versatile engineer rather than a specialist focused on a single, narrow discipline.

Cultural Alignment and Interpersonal Skills

  • Demonstrate high emotional intelligence and the ability to engage effectively with clients in a front-facing capacity.
  • Exhibit strong personal accountability and a humble approach to problem-solving when design challenges arise.
  • Be comfortable working in an environment where firearms and alcohol are present on-site.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
  • Show a willingness to integrate AI-driven tools into your design and workflow processes.

Academic Background

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, though equivalent professional experience will be considered.

Compliance and Eligibility

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens; we cannot provide sponsorship or accept green card holders for this position.
  • While no active security clearance is necessary, you must be capable of meeting ITAR compliance requirements.
