Overview

Loveland Landscape is seeking a talented Landscape Designer or Landscape Architect to join our Design and Build team. We are open to candidates at multiple stages of their careers—from a recent design graduate to an experienced senior designer capable of leading complex residential projects.

Based on the candidate’s experience, portfolio, technical capabilities, client-management skills, and leadership readiness, this position may be offered at one of three levels:

  • Landscape Designer I – Entry-Level
  • Landscape Designer II – Mid-Level
  • Senior Landscape Designer

Landscape architecture licensure is welcomed but not required. We are equally interested in qualified landscape designers and landscape architects with strong design ability, practical judgment, and an interest in seeing their work successfully built.

About Loveland Landscape

Loveland Landscape has served Utah’s Wasatch Front since 1984. Our Design and Build division creates customized landscapes and outdoor-living environments supported by experienced estimating, construction, irrigation, greenhouse, nursery, and landscape-care teams.

This position provides an opportunity to work on projects from the initial client consultation and site analysis through design, estimating, plant procurement, construction handoff, and project completion.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will be assigned according to the employee’s experience and position level and may include:

  • Meet with clients to understand their lifestyle, design preferences, priorities, schedule, and project-investment expectations.
  • Participate in or lead property walkthroughs, site documentation, measurements, design presentations, and revision meetings.
  • Develop creative, functional, water-conscious, and buildable landscape and outdoor-living designs.
  • Prepare conceptual plans, planting plans, material layouts, construction details, presentation drawings, and plan revisions.
  • Produce accurate 2D plans using DynaScape or another company-approved professional design platform.
  • Create or learn to create client-ready 3D models, renderings, and visual presentations.
  • Incorporate hardscape, planting, grading, drainage, irrigation, lighting, structures, and outdoor-living features into coordinated designs.
  • Discuss project budgets and design toward realistic investment ranges.
  • Coordinate with the estimator regarding quantities, materials, construction methods, allowances, alternates, and cost concerns.
  • Prepare complete design packages and conduct design-to-construction handoff meetings.
  • Work with the Horticulture & Enhancement Manager on plant palettes, nursery availability, plant quality, substitutions, lead times, and purchasing schedules.
  • Visit active projects at appropriate milestones and answer design-related questions.
  • Maintain accurate project records, approvals, schedules, revisions, and design files in company systems.
  • Serve as a design subject-matter resource for project photography, portfolio development, educational content, and selected marketing activities without owning marketing execution.
  • Depending on experience, coach junior designers and help improve company design standards, details, templates, and processes.

Position Levels

Landscape Designer I – Entry-Level

This developmental position is intended for a recent graduate or early-career designer. The Designer I supports site documentation, plan production, revisions, planting design, 3D visualization, project organization, and construction handoffs under the direction of a more experienced designer or manager.

Candidates may qualify with academic, internship, or up to approximately two years of relevant experience.

Landscape Designer II – Mid-Level

The Designer II independently manages standard and moderately complex residential projects from client discovery through final presentation and construction handoff. This position requires limited day-to-day supervision and is responsible for routine client communication, budget alignment, accurate plan production, 3D presentations, and coordination with estimating, construction, and the nursery.

Candidates will typically have approximately three or more years of relevant professional experience.

Senior Landscape Designer

The Senior Landscape Designer leads complex, high-value, technically unusual, or strategically important residential projects. This position requires strong client leadership, advanced construction knowledge, sound budget judgment, effective design-to-construction coordination, and the ability to help lead the company’s design function with limited oversight.

The Senior Designer may also mentor junior designers, improve design systems, support referral relationships, and represent Loveland Landscape’s design approach in the market.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, landscape design, environmental design, architectural design, or another closely related design discipline.
  • Portfolio demonstrating creativity, graphic communication, attention to detail, and applicable design ability.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn DynaScape and the company’s approved design workflow.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn professional 3D modeling, rendering, or visualization software.
  • Ability to develop designs that are attractive, functional, buildable, and aligned with the client’s budget.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, follow-through, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to collaborate with clients, estimators, construction managers, field crews, and nursery personnel.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client properties and active jobsites throughout the Wasatch Front.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in residential landscape design, landscape architecture, architecture, horticulture, or landscape construction.
  • Experience working for a landscape design-build contractor.
  • Knowledge of Northern Utah plants, soils, climate, water-conservation practices, and construction conditions.
  • Experience with grading, drainage, irrigation, hardscape, outdoor structures, lighting, pools, or other outdoor-living features.
  • Experience creating client-ready 3D models, renderings, or photorealistic presentations.
  • Experience coordinating with engineers, architects, builders, specialty contractors, or permitting authorities.
  • Active Utah landscape architect license or interest in pursuing licensure; licensure is not required.

Seasonal Snow Operations

This is a year-round salaried position that includes participation in winter snow-removal operations, generally as a plow driver with an assigned route.

Employees must maintain required availability during forecasted snow events, which may include nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. During significant snow events, snow responsibilities may replace normal design, client, and office duties for the workweek rather than creating a second workload in addition to regular responsibilities.

Applicable driver qualifications, safety training, and equipment training will be required.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated base salary range for this opportunity is $55,000–$100,000 per year. The final title and salary will be determined by experience, portfolio quality, technical proficiency, client-management capability, leadership readiness, licensure, and overall fit.

Benefits include:

  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off
