Job description
About this role
PURPOSE
- The Manufacturing Engineer III is a senior individual contributor responsible for developing, industrializing, controlling, and improving manufacturing processes for Lourdes precision fluid-control, electromechanical, and electrical products used in military and commercial applications. Product families include precision fittings, valves, pressure switches, dehydrators, swivel assemblies, and harness, connector, and PCB-based assemblies. The role leads new-product introduction, production readiness, process documentation, tooling, validation, problem solving, and continuous improvement while providing technical guidance to engineers and production personnel. As a senior technical leader, the position is expected to develop the business, people, and departmental leadership capabilities for potential advancement to Engineering Manager within two to five years, subject to sustained performance, demonstrated readiness, and business need.
- Location Requirement: This position is based in Hauppauge, NY. Candidates who currently reside within a reasonable commuting distance are strongly preferred. Applicants must be able to reliably commute to the facility for the required work schedule.
- 100% Employer-Paid Benefits: We cover 100% of your health, dental, and vision insurance premiums.
- PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/AUTHORITY
- · Manufacturing Process Ownership: Develop, qualify, document, and improve machining, cleaning, assembly, joining, soldering, potting, inspection, and functional-test processes appropriate to assigned products.
- · NPI and Production Readiness: Lead design-for-manufacturability and assembly reviews, process development, make-versus-buy input, capacity planning, pilot builds, first articles, and transfer of new or revised products into controlled production.
- · Work Instructions and Knowledge Capture: Work directly with engineers, technicians, inspectors, and experienced assemblers to convert proven methods and institutional knowledge into accurate routings, visual work instructions, manufacturing BOMs, setup sheets, labor standards, and training materials.
- · Tooling and Test Equipment: Define, design, source, qualify, and sustain fixtures, gauges, assembly tooling, test equipment, and error-proofing devices; establish maintenance and calibration requirements with Operations and Quality.
- · Risk, Validation, and Process Control: Develop and maintain PFMEAs, process flows, control plans, key-characteristic controls, capability studies, process trials, measurement-system studies, equipment qualifications, and manufacturing-readiness evidence.
- · Production Support and Corrective Action: Provide timely floor support; lead structured root-cause and corrective-action activities for defects, escapes, rework, scrap, test failures, and process interruptions; support MRB with technically sound recommendations.
- · Continuous Improvement: Improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, throughput, labor efficiency, flow, and capacity using data analysis, standard work, Lean methods, and disciplined change control.
- · Technical and Project Leadership: Lead cross-functional engineering and manufacturing projects, establish priorities, milestones, resources, and risks, communicate status, mentor less-experienced engineers and technicians, and coordinate assigned supplier or customer technical actions.
- · Engineering Leadership Development: Develop readiness for broader engineering leadership by supporting department workload planning, project and design reviews, engineering metrics, proposal priorities, talent development, and issue escalation; provide defined Engineering Manager backup coverage after completing required development objectives and demonstrating readiness.
- · Authority: Stop or contain work for an immediate safety, quality, or compliance concern and initiate corrective action; process manufacturing, design, or configuration changes through established review and approval requirements.
- ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- · Provide manufacturing estimates, technical assumptions, process concepts, and risk input for RFQs, proposals, and business cases.
- · Support engineering-change implementation, configuration control, ERP item-master/BOM/routing accuracy, and production-document release.
- · Participate in supplier reviews, audits, and technical meetings; promote product integrity, ESD/FOD controls, workplace safety, and applicable export-control compliance.
- · Perform other related duties consistent with the position and business needs.
