Overview

This position will provide technical oversight and leadership for the Gas Operations Pipeline Safety Management Systems (PSMS), risk management, operational performance, and compliance activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to technical oversight related to elements of Pipeline Safety Management as defined by API RP1173 including quality assurance, management of change, standard/procedure development/tracking, audit/incident tracking and emergency drill preparation. This position will also develop reports, administer work processes and lead initiatives for the PSMS group.

Additionally, this position may represent the company to external industry groups and organizations.

Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities* Oversee the LG&E gas operation’s Near Miss/Good Catch program.

  • Assist in the development and maintaining of a policy for Near Miss/Good Catch program.
  • Work with the Gas Operations team to lead Near Miss, Good Catch, and Incident investigations.
  • Reporting of investigation findings to gas leadership, recommending corrective actions that are based upon findings.
  • Logging of agreed upon corrective actions into a corrective action list.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with multiple departments/people ranging from the field level to senior leadership to align initiatives and achieve a common goal.
  • Ability to manage/prioritize multiple short-, medium-, and long-term tasks based upon current need.
  • Knowledgeable of and proficiently apply various code references which pertain to the gas system; this includes but may not be limited to 49 CFR Part 191 and 192 and other applicable industry standards.
  • Knowledgeable in risk assessment methodologies and provide direction on establishing criteria for process risk management.
  • Leads and provide technical oversight for development of standards/procedures development, review and communication of changes to appropriate departments.
  • Provides technical oversight for data analysis and assessments to Gas Operations and other Company departments in regards to areas of responsibility and other data sets as required.
  • Stays familiar with industry organizations and may participate on internal and external committees related to PSMS activities.

Essential Functions* Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods.

  • Gathers, correlates, and analyzes specific data using established procedures.
  • Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests, and analysis.
  • Performs a variety of routine tasks to become familiar with the engineering methods, practices, and programs of the company.
  • Supports operating and maintenance functions with problem identification, engineering analysis, and problem resolution activities.
  • Prepares and presents reports giving conclusions of job related engineering activities.
  • Assists other engineers with large projects, as needed.
  • Assists with the development of goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures.
  • Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free work place.
  • Conducts work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations.
  • Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Occasionally directs the activities of coops, supervisors, and others as they perform various activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology Preferred Qualfications* Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems from a business perspective.

  • Experience in the natural gas industry, including basic knowledge of natural gas construction and operations.
  • Experience with performing incident investigations and analysis.
