Orthopedic Physical Therapist

Role Overview:

The Physical Therapist provides medically prescribed therapy to alleviate pain, restore function, and prevent disability after disease, injury, or loss of a body part.

They develop individualized treatment programs using techniques such as exercise, massage, manual therapy, heat, water, light, and electrical modalities, based on physician prescriptions.

The therapist conducts diagnostic and functional tests on muscles, nerves, and joints, and guides patients through active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, and functional training with various equipment.

They also instruct patients on the use of mobility aids, postural control, and therapeutic exercises, perform evaluations and record progress, and may supervise support staff.

Additionally, they participate in training medical and nursing students and other personnel in physical therapy techniques.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education required: Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) after 2015 or equivalent

• Experience: Relevant clinical experience with specified duration and type preferred

• Licensure: Valid license as a Physical Therapist required

• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) mandatory; Pelvic Health certification preferred; certification in pelvic health must be obtained within 90 days

• Skills: Strong knowledge of therapy techniques, diagnostic testing, equipment operation, patient care, and team collaboration

Key Duties:

– Conduct and plan therapeutic interventions

– Perform patient assessments and document progress

– Educate patients on postural and exercise routines

– Supervise and train support staff and students

– Use specialized equipment like ultrasound and diathermy

– Treat wound patients as directed by physicians

– Ensure compliance with licensure and certification requirements.
