About this role

Role Description

Levinzon CPA, P.C. is seeking an experienced, dedicated, and self-motivated Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing practice. This position is ideal for a technically strong tax professional who can independently manage tax engagements, communicate effectively with clients, and identify practical solutions to complex tax matters.

The Senior Tax Accountant will prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and business entities. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, comfortable performing tax research, and capable of managing multiple client engagements and deadlines with limited supervision.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership of an engagement from document collection through preparation, review, client communication, and filing. This person does not merely enter information into tax software—they understand the underlying tax issues, recognize when additional research is necessary, and communicate practical solutions to clients and colleagues.

We are looking for someone who can balance technical accuracy with efficiency, sound judgment, and a client-focused approach.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, and disregarded entities.
  • Handle tax engagements involving closely held businesses, professional-service firms, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Prepare multistate returns and analyze state filing requirements, apportionment, residency, and pass-through entity tax matters.
  • Assist with international tax compliance, including foreign-owned U.S. businesses, foreign information reporting, nonresident withholding, and cross-border transactions.
  • Prepare and review quarterly tax estimates, extensions, tax projections, and year-end planning calculations.
  • Research federal and state tax issues and document conclusions using applicable statutes, regulations, administrative guidance, and tax authorities.
  • Analyze client financial statements, general ledgers, trial balances, fixed-asset schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify potential tax-saving opportunities and communicate recommendations clearly to clients and firm leadership.
  • Respond to IRS and state notices and assist with examinations, penalty-abatement requests, and other tax controversy matters.
  • Communicate directly with clients to obtain information, explain tax results, and resolve outstanding questions.
  • Coordinate with bookkeepers, payroll providers, attorneys, investment advisers, and other professionals involved in client engagements.
  • Maintain accurate workpapers and ensure that assigned returns comply with the firm’s quality-control procedures.
  • Manage multiple engagements and deadlines while providing timely status updates.
  • Assist with training and reviewing the work of junior tax staff, as applicable.
  • Support improvements to the firm’s tax preparation, review, document-management, and client-communication processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, finance, or a related field.
  • At least three to five years of recent public-accounting tax experience (No Exceptions)
  • Strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns.
  • Working knowledge of Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, and 1120.
  • Strong understanding of federal taxation and state taxation, particularly New York and New Jersey.
  • Ability to independently research and resolve unfamiliar tax issues.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex tax matters clearly and professionally.
  • High level of accuracy, professional judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with other team members.
  • Proficiency with professional tax software and Microsoft Excel.Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA license, Enrolled Agent designation, or active progress toward obtaining a professional credential.
  • Experience reviewing tax returns prepared by other staff members.
  • Experience with high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses.
  • Experience with multistate taxation and pass-through entity tax elections.
  • Familiarity with international information returns and withholding forms, including Forms 1042-S, 5471, 5472, 8938, and Schedules K-2 and K-3.
  • Experience responding to federal and state tax notices.
  • Familiarity with Lacerte or comparable professional tax-preparation software.
  • Experience with tax planning, projections, entity structuring, and business advisory services.
