About this role
Family Law Associate Attorney – High Conflict Custody Focus
Los Angeles Family Law & Juvenile Dependency Practice
Why This Role Matters
Families come to us at some of the hardest moments of their lives. Parents are in conflict. Children are caught in the middle.
The stakes couldn’t be higher.
Our mission is simple
Your Fresh Start Is Our Fight. We don’t measure success by how long a case lasts or how many motions get filed. We look for the fastest, most durable path to resolution—one that lowers the temperature, protects the children, and sets our clients up so they don’t keep coming back to court.
With 20 years of experience in family law and juvenile dependency, our firm knows high conflict. We are looking for an associate attorney who wants to handle it strategically—not add fuel to the fire—and who wants to grow with a practice that is expanding.
What You’ll Do
You will manage your own caseload from intake through judgment, with direct mentorship from and close collaboration with our principal attorney. Your matters will include:
- Divorce and legal separation, including property and debt division
- Child custody and visitation, parenting plans, and timeshare schedules
- Child and spousal support, including matters that start with the child support agency
- Parentage actions (petitions to establish parental relationship)
- Domestic violence restraining orders (DVROs)
- Juvenile dependency matters (training provided)
Day to day, you will:
- Draft RFOs, declarations, responsive pleadings, discovery, and settlement agreements
- Prepare detailed custody orders and judgments that anticipate the next conflict before it happens
- Appear at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials in Los Angeles County Superior Court
- Counsel clients with honesty and empathy—setting realistic expectations and helping them plan for life after the case
You will also have the opportunity to help shape the firm’s client resources—practice guides, FAQs, and post-case tools that help co-parents move forward.
What You Bring
- Active California State Bar license in good standing
- California family law experience (required) 2 YEAR MINIMUM
- Court appearance experience, including contested hearings (trial experience a plus)
- Juvenile dependency experience (a plus, but not required)
- Strong legal drafting and case management skills (experience with Clio and DissoMaster/XSpouse preferred)
- Ability to stay calm, empathetic, and strategic with emotionally intense clients and opposing parties
- Exceptional written and oral communication and attention to detail
- Bilingual (Spanish and/or Russian) a plus
Bonus qualities:
- A problem-solver who looks for resolution, not escalation
- Thinks two steps ahead for the client
- A steady presence under pressure
- Curiosity and willingness to learn
- Independence balanced with team spirit
- Love helping families toward a fresh start
What We Offer
We believe in caring for the people who care for our clients. Our office is a place where professionalism and compassion go hand in hand. We know family law is emotionally intense, so we foster a supportive culture where team members look out for one another.
You’ll find a collaborative environment where questions are welcomed, mentorship is encouraged, and successes are celebrated. While we hold ourselves to high standards of excellence for our clients, we also value balance—sharing meals together, checking in on each other, and making sure no one feels like they’re carrying the weight alone.
We recognize that litigating high-conflict custody and dependency cases can be emotionally draining. To support our team, we build in flexibility when it’s needed—whether that means adjusting schedules, or offering remote work options.
We want our attorneys to have the resilience and clarity required to serve families well, and that starts with ensuring you have time and support to recover and return to the work with focus and care.
