About this role
Analytics Engineer
Location: Cranberry Township, PA | Remote Consideration for Exceptional Candidate
Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization, now or in the future.
The Analytics Engineer will own the path from our Snowflake warehouse to the Power BI reports that finance, operations, sales, customers and carriers use every day. The role reports to the CFO.
Knichel is an intermodal marketing and freight brokerage company. Our data spans shipment and load activity, rail and truckload operations, carrier performance, customer quotes and billing, carrier settlements, and financial accounting.
A small team builds and maintains this platform end to end; this position adds capacity and takes ownership of the data warehouse, the reporting models, and a growing portfolio of internal and external reports.
This is a builder's role. This position will write the Snowflake SQL, design the star schema, write the DAX, set up row-level security, and sit with the pricing desk or AR team to make sure the report answers the question they have.

- Support geospatial and distance-based analysis for lane, network and route optimization use cases.
Power BI Development
- Build and maintain Power BI semantic models, including relationships, date tables and centralized measure libraries.
- Develop advanced DAX calculations: time intelligence, period-over-period comparisons, what-if scenarios, segmentation and ranking.
- Design and implement row-level security for internal role-based access and for external customer and partner reporting.
- Manage the Power BI Service: workspaces, apps, scheduled and incremental refresh, deployment and report distribution.
- Deliver clear, executive-ready dashboards with strong visual hierarchy, consistent design standards and drill-through to detail.
Analysis and Business Partnering
- Partner with Finance on cash flow forecasting, accounts receivable, working capital and P&L reporting.
- Partner with Pricing on margin analysis, quote-to-actual variance and lane profitability.
- Partner with Operations and Sales on service performance, carrier and customer scorecards, and sales performance reporting.

Automation and Data Quality
- Build and maintain workflow automations and data integrations using the Microsoft Power Platform.
