Job Description

Kimo Constructors, Inc., an established civil construction contractor located in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, is seeking an experienced Construction Accountant / Controller to manage the company's accounting operations, construction billing, job costing, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, particularly unit-price contract billing, project cost tracking, and financial management. Kimo utilizes FOUNDATION Construction Accounting Software, and prior experience with this software is highly desirable.

This is a hands-on accounting position requiring an organized, detail-oriented professional capable of independently managing daily accounting responsibilities while working closely with company ownership and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bookkeeping.
• Prepare and manage unit-price construction progress billings, including tracking completed quantities, contract unit prices, approved change orders, retainage, and payment applications.
• Coordinate with project managers to verify completed work quantities and ensure accurate, timely billing.
• Maintain construction job cost accounting, including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other project-related expenses.
• Utilize FOUNDATION Construction Accounting Software for accounting, job costing, billing, and financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, and internal financial reports for company management.
• Perform bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and general ledger account reconciliations.
• Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability, identifying discrepancies and reporting financial performance to management.
• Manage accounts receivable collections and monitor outstanding construction payments.
• Assist with payroll accounting, employee expense reporting, and related recordkeeping.
• Coordinate with outside accountants and tax professionals for tax filings, year-end reporting, and other financial requirements.
• Maintain accurate financial records and assist with general office administrative responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in civil construction or general contracting.
• Experience with construction unit-price billing, progress payment applications, and job cost accounting strongly preferred.
• Experience with FOUNDATION Construction Accounting Software is a significant plus.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
• Experience with public works construction contracts, including NMDOT, municipal, or other government-funded projects, is desirable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
• Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements, cash flow reports, and project profitability reports.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent construction accounting experience will be considered.
