Cost Accountant

Location: Madison, WI (On-site) Department: Finance Reports To: Plant Controller

Position Summary

Oakhouse Bakery, a subsidiary of Keep It REAL Foods, we are looking for an entry-level Staff Accountant to join our plant finance team. You’ll get hands-on exposure to cost accounting, inventory controls, and month-end close in a manufacturing environment — a great foundation if you’re looking to build a career in cost or plant accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Accounting & Controls

• Assist with reconciling inventory subledgers to the general ledger
• Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts alongside warehouse/operations teams
• Help review and document inventory adjustments, scrap, and yield variances

Cost & Manufacturing

Support

• Assist in maintaining standard costs for raw materials, packaging, labor, and overhead under the guidance of senior team members
• Help prepare variance reports (material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption)
• Support BOM and routing accuracy checks

Month-End Close & Reporting

• Prepare journal entries for inventory, accruals, and cost adjustments
• Assist in reconciling accounts tied to inventory, WIP, and COGS
• Help compile daily/weekly/monthly production cost reports and KPIs

General

• Support the Plant Controller and cost accounting team with ad hoc analysis
• Participate in internal and external audit requests as needed

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 0-3 years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing; food/beverage experience preferred.
• Understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
• Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP)

Preferred

• Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
• Interest in food/beverage or manufacturing industries
