About the Role
Kavant is seeking to fill an OCI Infrastructure Engineer position in support of VA (Veterans Affairs) Cloud Operations and Migration Services (COMS) capability to provide operational input and support for the operations, maintenance, and refinement of VA’s Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) environment, execution support for migrating new and legacy VA applications and services to cloud computing and continuous improvement of VA’s IT infrastructure.
The candidate will support our VA clients in their cloud operations to enhance, optimize, and maintain their computing capabilities across their technical landscape. This includes working with our VA system admins when supporting application teams, working with project teams to operate & maintain (O&M) VA applications on their cloud platform.
The OCI Infrastructure Engineer will be focused on, and must have expertise with, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) components, resources, services, and tools.
What You'll Do
- Provision and manage the core OCI infrastructure, including the Virtual Cloud Network (VCN), subnets, routing, security lists, compute instances, and storage required for the Oracle RAC cluster.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or technical discipline (10 years additional work experience might be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Minimum of six (6) years setting up, configuring and using OCI cloud operational tools to ensure service level agreements and performance targets are met, and continued compliance with policies, standards and guidelines
- Experience in systems administration within Linux (Red Hat) or Windows environments
- Experience in one or more of the suite of tools, shown below.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in leading technical teams to achieve objectives and outcomes.
- Experience developing and implementing technical standards, systems and processes for cloud and on-prem environments.
- Experience recommending technology strategies and decisions with a high-level of expertise and knowledge.
- Experience providing technical direction and support to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines.
- Current cloud certification or a recent passing exam (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP, OCI associate, professional, or specialty levels)
- Candidate background eligibility requirements are United States citizen or be a Permanent Resident and have lived in the United States for at least 3 years, clean criminal background and able to obtain a Public Trust (High-Risk) Position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active clearance for Public Trust (High-Risk) Position
- Current OCI certification or a recent passing exam (e.g., OCI Associate/ Professional/ Specialist levels)
- Experience creating, testing, and maintaining virtual machine images
- Experience in creating technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and how-to guides
- Assisting application teams with system administration
- Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification or ITIL knowledge
- Knowledge of security regulations, best practices, countermeasures, compliance standards and current threats.
- Previous Federal Government experience, preferably at VA
- Technical support and OS-level remediations for vulnerability scans
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure
- Experience with DevOps configuration technology (ex. Ansible, Chef, Docker, Kubernetes, Puppet)
- Experience in writing, testing and maintaining code (ex. HashiCorp Configuration Language, JSON, Python)

- Oracle Storage: Archive Storage, Block Volumes, File Storage, Object Storage, Storage Gateway
- Some experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP tool equivalents to OCI Cloud Service Provider (CSP) Operational Tools/Services desired.
