About this role

About the Role

JetHead Development is seeking a Data Analyst / Data Scientist to turn complex datasets into useful insights, reliable metrics, and actionable dashboards. You will work with engineers and customers to understand their questions, assess data quality, and develop analyses that support technical and operational decisions.

We welcome entry- and mid-level candidates. Responsibilities will reflect your experience, with opportunities to contribute to statistical modeling, data modeling, schema governance, and monitoring.

This position combines remote work with regular on-site collaboration at our Carlsbad facility. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain findings clearly are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Write SQL queries to explore, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources.
  • Use Python to clean data, automate analyses, and develop repeatable analytical workflows.
  • Define and maintain data models, metric definitions, and documentation in collaboration with data engineers.
  • Support schema governance by documenting data definitions, identifying inconsistencies, and evaluating the impact of changes.
  • Build dashboards and alerts that help users understand system behavior, performance, and data quality.
  • Apply statistical methods to identify trends, investigate anomalies, and evaluate relationships.
  • Develop and validate statistical models appropriate to the available data and the question being studied.
  • Present findings, assumptions, and limitations clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Translate customer questions into measurable requirements and practical analytical deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Practical SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, and querying relational datasets.
  • Python skills for data preparation and analysis.
  • Understanding of data modeling, schema design, and data quality principles.
  • Foundational knowledge of statistics and the ability to interpret results accurately.
  • Experience creating dashboards, reports, or other data visualizations.
  • Ability to investigate unexpected results and document analytical methods.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to participate in a hybrid schedule with on-site work in Carlsbad, CA.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Entry-level candidates may demonstrate these skills through academic projects, internships, research, or personal work. Mid-level candidates should be comfortable taking an analysis from an initial question through validation and presentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience querying data with Amazon Athena or working with Apache Iceberg datasets.
  • Familiarity with Grafana dashboards and Prometheus metrics.
  • Experience defining alert thresholds and investigating time-series data.
  • Experience with statistical modeling, model evaluation, or anomaly detection.
  • Familiarity with streaming data and Kafka-based systems.
  • Knowledge of network or satellite systems; prior industry experience is not required.
  • Experience with specification-driven development, including tools such as OpenSpec.
  • Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP), particularly preparing clear data definitions, metadata, and governed datasets for access through MCP tools.

Our Technology Environment

Our team works with Python, SQL, Apache Flink, Kafka, Kafka Connect, Apache Iceberg, Amazon Athena, AWS Batch, AWS EKS, Prometheus, and Grafana. Development and deployment tools include Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and GitHub Actions.

You do not need experience with every platform or deployment tool to apply.
