Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited educational program.
  • Active Texas OT license required to start the position.
  • BLS certification from AHA or ARC may be required.
  • Experience in a hospital-based setting or with acute care preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by the facility.

Role Summary

Provide occupational therapy assessment and treatment to adult and geriatric patients in an acute hospital setting. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Document patient progress and discharge plans according to facility and regulatory standards.

Educate patients and caregivers on strategies to maximize function and safety. Participate in department meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Clinical Responsibilities and Environment

  • Carries a caseload of generalist hospital patients across medical and surgical units.
  • Performs standardized and functional assessments to determine patient needs and goals.
  • Provides ADL, IADL, cognition, splinting, adaptive equipment training, and mobility interventions as appropriate.
  • Coordinates care with nursing, PT, ST, physicians, and discharge planners to facilitate safe transitions of care.
  • Maintains accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior acute care hospital experience.
  • Familiarity with common acute diagnoses and interventions including post-operative care, stroke, orthopedic conditions, and medical comorbidities.
  • Experience with adaptive equipment recommendations and discharge planning.
