Job description

About this role

Company Overview

Insignia Federal Group is a woman-owned small business providing personalized consulting services to private and public sector clients. Its expertise includes professional IT services, program management, training, and acquisition support.

Job Summary

Insignia Federal Group is a professional consulting firm headquartered in McLean, Virginia. We have an excellent opportunity for a Quality Assurance Analyst to support a federal government client. This role involves ensuring the quality, accessibility, and usability of large-scale federal websites and web applications through manual and automated testing within an Agile delivery environment.

The Quality Assurance Analyst should be detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable engaging early in the development cycle, reviewing requirements, building test cases before development is complete, and validating finished work against acceptance criteria.

The successful candidate will work closely with business analysts, developers, UI/UX designers, and federal stakeholders to deliver reliable, standards-compliant digital experiences.

Successful Candidate

Test Planning & Requirements Analysis

  • 3+ years of experience in software quality assurance for web-based applications.
  • Independently review user stories, acceptance criteria, functional requirements, and UI/UX designs to identify test scenarios, missing requirements, dependencies, and potential risks.
  • Develop and maintain organized test plans, suites, and test cases grouped by application functionality, features, and components, with traceability to Jira tickets and acceptance criteria.
  • Prepare test cases proactively during backlog refinement and development, rather than waiting until features are ready for QA.
  • Design positive, negative, and exploratory test scenarios to validate both documented requirements and unexpected application behavior.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and developers to clarify ambiguities and ensure requirements are sufficiently testable before implementation is complete.

Manual & Automated Testing

  • Perform hands-on functional, integration, regression, exploratory, and end-to-end testing of web applications and interactive website functionality.
  • Prioritize testing and retesting of active sprint deliverables to support code-freeze and release commitments.
  • Designing and executing automated test scripts using tools such as Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, or similar frameworks is a plus.
  • Perform targeted regression testing after bug fixes to identify unintended impacts on related functionality.
  • Validate functionality across browsers, devices, screen sizes, and user interaction scenarios.

Accessibility & Usability Testing

  • Strong working knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
  • Experience conducting accessibility testing using web tools (e.g., ANDI or JAWS) and manual methods.
  • Experience identifying usability issues and communicating them clearly to design and development teams.

Content Management Systems

  • Experience testing websites built on Drupal or other enterprise content management systems.
  • Familiarity with CMS workflows, content types, and publishing processes.
  • Experience validating interactive web application functionality, including user inputs, form validation, search/filter behavior, conditional workflows, data-driven results, and third-party integrations.

Defect Management

  • Independently investigate and document defects with clear steps and relevant details.
  • Create, track, and maintain defects in Jira, linking findings to the appropriate user stories, acceptance criteria, and test cases.
  • Work directly with developers to resolve issues, validate corrections, and perform regression testing before closing defects.
  • Proactively communicate critical defects, testing blockers, coverage gaps, and release risks to the development and delivery teams.

Agile Delivery & Collaboration

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews.
  • Proficient with Jira and Confluence for defect tracking, test management, and documentation.
  • Ability to write clear, reproducible defect reports and work collaboratively with developers through resolution.
  • Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and communicating test results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN OR AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE U.S. WITHOUT SPONSORSHIP.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or four or more years of equivalent professional experience in software quality assurance. Must be detail-oriented with strong analytical, written communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple testing priorities in a fast-paced federal delivery environment.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government websites or digital modernization programs
  • DHS Section 508 Trusted Tester certification
  • ISTQB or equivalent software testing certification
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS)
  • Experience with visual regression testing tools
  • Exposure to API testing tools such as Postman
