About this role
Title: Embedded Camera Systems Engineer at Google
Location: San Jose, CA
Pay: $60-$80HR
Contract: long term; 12 months renewal increments
PTO: 8 Days
About the Role
Insight Global is seeking a
Camera IQ Engineer
to support an AR/XR wearable-device program. This position owns the end-to-end bring-up, integration, and image-quality evaluation of camera modules on embedded platforms.
This is
not primarily a traditional camera-lab or camera-tuning position
. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience taking a camera module from initial hardware integration through stable, functional image capture and can troubleshoot the camera system across hardware, embedded software, drivers, sensors, and imaging pipelines.
Candidates should be comfortable developing in
C/C++
, working at the driver and embedded-platform level, integrating components such as
IMUs and LEDs
, and using
Python
for test automation, data collection, and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Bring up camera modules on embedded platforms and validate stable, functional image output.
- Integrate and debug camera modules alongside supporting hardware and sensors, including
IMUs, LEDs, and other device sensors
.
- Develop, modify, and debug embedded camera software, drivers, and platform-level code required for camera bring-up and experimentation.
- Work with
Qualcomm-based platforms
or comparable embedded camera architectures.
- Perform camera image-quality evaluation and analysis across still-image, video, and device use cases.
- Diagnose camera-system issues across hardware, drivers, sensor integration, imaging pipelines, and image quality.
- Develop experiments to characterize camera-module and system-level performance.
- Build scripts and tools to automate camera testing, data collection, evaluation, and analysis.
- Document bring-up results, image-quality findings, regressions, and recommended improvements.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience
in camera systems, embedded imaging, camera-module integration, image quality, or a related engineering field.
- Hands-on experience
bringing up camera modules on embedded hardware or device platforms
, from initial integration through functional image capture.
- Strong
C/C++ development experience
for embedded systems, camera software, or driver-level development.
- Experience with
camera drivers, hardware/software integration, and low-level debugging
.
- Hands-on experience with
camera image-quality evaluation and analysis
.
- Experience integrating or debugging additional hardware components associated with camera systems, such as
IMUs, LEDs, or other sensors
.
- Python
experience for automation, test tooling, data collection, or analysis.
- Ability to troubleshoot camera-system issues across multiple layers rather than relying solely on controlled camera-lab evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with
Qualcomm camera platforms, camera frameworks, or Qualcomm-based embedded systems
.
- Camera-module bring-up experience with
wearables, mobile devices, AR/VR, or other highly integrated embedded devices
.
- Experience developing or modifying
camera or sensor drivers
.
- Experience with computational photography, camera pipelines, ISP tuning, or image-quality optimization.
- Experience building automated camera validation or characterization workflows.
- Experience working with systems that combine cameras with
IMUs and other synchronized sensors
.
Assignment Details
- Candidates must be
local to the San Jose area
.
- Employment through Insight Global.
- $60-$80/hour
, depending on experience and final client authorization.
- 12-month initial assignment with long-term renewal potential.
- Benefits available through Insight Global.
- 8 paid days off.
- Equipment provided.
- One-round interview process.
- Offer-to-start onboarding generally takes 4-6 weeks.
What We're Looking For
- A strong candidate is someone who can say: "I've personally brought a camera module up on hardware."
- We're especially interested in engineers who have combined camera-module bring-up with C/C++ development, driver-level debugging, embedded platforms, sensor integration, and image-quality evaluation .
- Pure camera-lab IQ experience without embedded camera bring-up or C/C++ development is not the primary fit for this opening.
- The actual rate offered will depend on the candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, location, and final client authorization.
- Benefits are available through Insight Global, subject to eligibility requirements and plan terms.
