Senior Product Owner – Insurance Technology

Location: Union Beach, NJ

Hire Type: Contract

Duration: 12–18 Months

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Owner / Senior Product Manager with strong insurance industry expertise to drive the vision, strategy, and delivery of digital products and technology solutions.

The ideal candidate will combine strong product ownership, insurance domain knowledge, Agile delivery, requirements management, and stakeholder leadership . This person will work closely with business leaders, users, engineering teams, architects, QA, data teams, and subject-matter experts to translate complex insurance workflows and business needs into clear, actionable product requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Define and communicate product vision, strategy, roadmap, priorities, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Partner with business leaders and users to understand business goals, processes, pain points, and opportunities.
  • Evaluate product initiatives based on customer impact, business value, cost, risk, technical feasibility, and ROI.
  • Prioritize product investments and build alignment across business and technology stakeholders.
  • Monitor product adoption, performance, and business outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement.

Discovery & Requirements

  • Lead discovery workshops and requirements sessions with business users, SMEs, architects, developers, data teams, UX, and QA.
  • Analyze current-state and future-state business processes and workflows.
  • Document business rules, data requirements, integrations, dependencies, exceptions, and controls.
  • Translate business requirements into

epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and functional requirements

  • Break complex requirements into clear, testable backlog items.
  • Identify gaps, conflicting requirements, dependencies, and risks and drive timely resolution.
  • Leverage AI-powered tools to improve product discovery, requirements definition, backlog management, communication, and decision-making.

Agile Delivery & Backlog Management

  • Own, maintain, refine, and prioritize the product backlog based on business value, customer impact, risk, urgency, dependencies, and team capacity.
  • Ensure backlog items are well-defined, prioritized, and ready for development.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily collaboration, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Partner with engineering teams to evaluate solution options and make informed scope and sequencing decisions.
  • Review and accept completed work against defined acceptance criteria and intended business outcomes.
  • Support UAT, release readiness, training, communications, and post-production activities.

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the voice of the customer/user and a trusted advisor to business stakeholders.
  • Facilitate product demonstrations, feedback sessions, and decision-making meetings.
  • Communicate product priorities, status, risks, dependencies, decisions, and expected business value to both executive and technical audiences.
  • Build strong relationships across business units, technology teams, vendors, and other Product Owners.
  • Coordinate shared capabilities and cross-functional dependencies.

Data, Integration & Quality

  • Partner with QA and business testers to define expected product behavior and support test planning and execution.
  • Analyze data flows, data quality, integration behavior, and exception scenarios.
  • Understand

data mapping, transformation rules, APIs, integrations, error handling, and retry mechanisms

  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to validate assumptions and measure product effectiveness.
  • Promote usability, accessibility, security, reliability, maintainability, and operational readiness.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years

of progressive experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Product Lead, or similar role delivering software or digital products.

  • Strong and demonstrated

insurance industry experience

  • Strong understanding of insurance operations and terminology, including:
  • Policies
  • Endorsements
  • Renewals
  • Claims
  • Underwriting
  • Premiums

  • Client servicing
  • Billing
  • Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable
  • Financial transactions
  • Proven experience defining product strategy, vision, roadmaps, and business outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience owning and prioritizing product backlogs in an

Agile/Scrum environment

  • Working proficiency with

AI tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio

  • Product Management, Product Owner, Agile/Scrum, Business Analysis, Insurance, or Project Management certification is a plus.
