About this role

Senior Business Analyst – Commercial Banking, Core Banking & Lending Technology

The Senior Business Analyst will serve as a strategic liaison across Commercial and Private Banking, Operations, Technology, Compliance, Risk, Data Governance, implementation partners, and other crossfunctional teams.

This role requires a high-caliber professional with strong commercial banking, core banking, and lending experience; advanced data analysis skills using SQL and Python; hands-on familiarity with relevant technology platforms; and the ability to translate complex business needs into clear functional, non-functional, technical, data, reporting, control, and integration requirements.

The analyst will support end-to-end solution delivery, leverage data-driven insights to identify business and operational improvement opportunities, recommend practical solutions, develop business use cases, perform production incident root-cause analysis, and provide subject matter expertise while ensuring solutions align with bank objectives, regulatory expectations, auditability, and industry-standard delivery practices.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Commercial Banking, Front Office, Operations, Credit, Loan Operations, Treasury, Compliance, Risk, Data Governance, CISO, IT, and vendor teams to elicit, analyze, and document business, functional, non-functional, technical, data, reporting, control, and integration requirements.
  • Lead discovery sessions, workshops, walkthroughs, and decision meetings with senior stakeholders, ensuring clear outcomes, documented decisions, issue escalation, and timely follow-through.
  • Define current- and target-state processes, system flows, interface specifications, source-totarget mappings, data lineage, transformation rules, data conversion/reconciliation requirements, ETL requirements, exception handling, and operational controls in accordance with SDLC and governance standards.
  • Analyze impacts across core banking platforms, commercial loan origination and servicing systems, collateral, pricing, payments, GL/accounting, treasury/cash management, regulatory reporting, data warehouse, and upstream/downstream interfaces.
  • Identify opportunities through data analysis to simplify, standardize, automate, and optimize commercial banking and loan operations processes; develop business and operational use cases; and recommend solutions that improve data quality, operational efficiency, client experience, audit readiness, and risk management.
  • Perform data analysis using SQL, Python, Excel, and reporting tools to identify trends, generate actionable insights, support data-driven decision making, validate business rules, reconcile data, investigate defects, and support conversion/migration activities.
  • Develop clear, well-written business requirements, functional specifications, non-functional requirements, interface requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, report specifications, test scenarios, traceability matrices, operating procedures, executive-ready summaries, and implementation-support documentation.
  • Support production incidents through hands-on root-cause analysis across business processes, data flows, interfaces, batch jobs, APIs, reports, and dependencies; document impacts, remediation options, and preventive controls.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on commercial banking, lending, core banking processes, system behavior, data dependencies, controls, and integration touchpoints to guide solution design, SIT/UAT, defect triage, implementation decisions, go-live readiness, and postimplementation support.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of Business Analyst experience within banking or financial services, with significant hands-on experience in commercial banking, lending, core banking modernization, system implementation, production support, or integration initiatives; core banking replacement experience is a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of commercial banking products and processes, including commercial loans, lines of credit, term loans, renewals, modifications, collateral, pricing, servicing, payments, account maintenance, treasury/cash management touchpoints, and operational workflows.
  • Proven ability to produce clear, actionable functional specifications, technical requirements, interface specifications, data mappings, report requirements, process flows, and operational procedures for business, technology, QA, vendor, and control teams.
  • Experience with core banking systems, commercial loan origination and/or servicing platforms, payment processing, GL/accounting feeds, data warehouse integrations, regulatory reporting, and upstream/downstream banking interfaces; core banking replacement, modernization, or migration experience is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on proficiency with SQL and Python for data extraction, profiling, cleansing, transformation, reconciliation, validation, root-cause analysis, migration/conversion support, and automation of repeatable analysis tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience with integration analysis across APIs, batch files, middleware, ETL processes, data feeds, vendor platforms, downstream reporting environments, and exception/error-handling scenarios.
  • Hands-on familiarity with application, integration, data, reporting, and operational technology stacks, with the ability to analyze issues independently, ask precise technical questions, and contribute effectively without handholding.
  • Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to leverage data to drive business decisions, identify operational improvement opportunities, develop compelling business cases, recommend practical solutions, influence outcomes, and operate as a senior individual contributor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, stakeholder-management, and documentation skills, with the ability to produce concise, accurate, executive-ready materials.
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC, Agile and/or hybrid delivery, requirements traceability, change control, SIT/UAT, defect management, production readiness, go-live/hyper care support, and post-implementation validation.
