Graftek Imaging, Inc. is an industrial automation company specializing in machine vision and imaging for manufacturing and science.
Founded in 1996, Graftek Imaging is based in Austin, Texas and serves a global customer base by providing a single source for machine vision products to meet their goals. At the same time, Graftek continues to be a leading innovator in machine vision, providing custom software and hardware solutions for science and industry. Please look at www.graftek.com to learn more about us.
We are looking for a highly motivated person to fill the position of Sales Engineer – Industrial Automation. The position is full-time and salaried. The company offers an array of benefits including 401K, PTO, health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, long term disability and short term disability.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Graftek is growing. You will identify inspection and measurement problems on the plant floor, qualify them technically and commercially, and bring in our engineering team to solve them.
Our customers are food and beverage processors, CPG manufacturers, automotive and aerospace suppliers, oil and gas, and medical device makers - anywhere a production line has to see what it is making.
The job is to earn enough trust that a customer brings you their hard problems, and to understand the technical requirements well enough to know where our capabilities fit and where they do not.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- 50% - working fresh leads. Inbound inquiries, trade show contacts, and supplier referrals. Qualify, scope, and advance them.
- 30% - new business development. Build pipeline in Texas manufacturing and beyond, targeting plants still inspecting by eye.
- 20% - lead source relationships. Our camera, optics, lighting and software partners refer work to us. Keep those channels active.
Day to day:
- Qualify the application before quoting - part, speed, defect, environment, budget.
- Quote catalog components and small systems independently.
- Engage engineering for anything requiring a feasibility study, a sample evaluation, or a custom build.
- Run sample tests and customer demos in our lab, hands-on with cameras, optics and lighting.
- Maintain accurate CRM records and a forecast you can defend.
- Visit customer sites and walk production lines.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Technical judgment and follow-through matter more here than prior sales tenure.
- Self-directed. Sets the pace rather than waiting to be managed to it.
- Rigorous. Specifications, part numbers and quotes go out correct the first time.
- Persistent, not pushy. Follows up until there is an answer, and recognizes when the answer is no.
- Direct. Tells a customer what a system will not do, and tells us when a deal is slipping.
- Disciplined about priorities. Protects time for the opportunities that will actually close.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- BS in engineering, physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on technical experience
- 1+ year in technical sales, inside sales, applications engineering, field service or field engineering, or another customer-facing technical role
- Able to hold a technical discussion with a plant engineer and a commercial one with purchasing the same day
- Willing to travel approximately 20-30%, primarily regional
- Based in or willing to relocate to Austin, TX - this is an in-person role
Strongly preferred
- Industrial automation experience - sensors, PLCs, motion, robotics, controls, machine vision, or capital equipment
- Coursework or applied work in optics, imaging, or image and signal processing
- Experience with food and beverage, CPG, automotive, aerospace, or medical device manufacturing
Not required
- A machine vision background - we will train you on cameras, optics, illumination and software
- Prior quota-carrying experience, provided the technical foundation is there
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- $70,000–$80,000 base salary + commission
- 401(k)
- Health, dental and vision insurance
- Paid time off
- Short- and long-term disability insurance
- Training on cameras, optics, illumination and software
WHY GRAFTEK
Thirty years in machine vision, and still taking on problems that have not been solved before - inspecting product at line speed, measuring to tolerances no operator can judge by eye, and building systems that decide what ships and what does not.
You will work directly with customers, with the supplier partners who refer work to us, and alongside the engineers who design and build the systems you sell. Accounts are yours to open, develop and own.
We are growing, and we promote from within.
