Software Engineer
About this role
Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.
A well-funded, AI-native start-up is building modern software for a large, under-served market. The team is small and senior. Engineers own their work from the first product decision through to production, ship continuously, and spend their time on problems that matter rather than on process.
The role
You'll be a Staff-level player-coach: roughly 80% hands-on building and 20% raising the bar for the engineers around you. You'll own the scope, architecture, implementation and production results for a core product domain.
What you'll need
- 7–10 years building and shipping software products, including real coding experience from before AI tools existed
- Proven, sustained Staff-level ownership of a product domain
- Deep full-stack TypeScript: Node.js, React, Tailwind, Postgres data modeling and API design
- Production AI and LLM features you have shipped yourself: agents, RAG, tool-calling, streaming
- A direct but kind communication style, and the confidence to push back on senior leadership
What will make you stand out
- Vercel AI SDK, Mastra or VoltAgent
- TanStack (Router, Query, Start)
- Durable workflows and background jobs at scale (Trigger.dev, Temporal or similar)
- Contributions to, or maintenance of, a widely used open-source tool
What you get
- Serious investment in your tooling, AI access and ongoing learning
- Real autonomy, with a technical voice that carries weight
- A practical interview process built around real engineering work, not puzzles
This isn't the role for you
if your background is purely Ruby on Rails, without TypeScript or Node.js.
Location
New York, onsite 4 days a week.
