About Us
------------
Georgia Southern University is the state's largest and most comprehensive center of higher learning south of Atlanta, and one of the most dynamic public universities in the Southeast.
Founded in 1906, Georgia Southern has grown from a single-purpose college into a Carnegie Doctoral/R2 institution with 149 degree programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels, serving 31,600 students from all 50 states, Washington D. C. , Puerto Rico and more than 100 nations.
Four distinct campuses extend Georgia Southern's reach across the region: a 900-acre quintessential college campus in Statesboro, anchored by Georgian-style red-brick buildings set among oaks and pines; the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, minutes from historic downtown and a short drive from the beaches of Tybee Island; a modern, purpose-built facility in Hinesville serving local and military-affiliated students; and the East Georgia Campus in Swainsboro, an outdoor oasis nestled on a 385-acre pine forest, offering expanded pathways to higher education for students across southeast Georgia.
Through ten colleges, the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing, the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Science and Mathematics, the Jack N.
Averitt College of Graduate Studies, the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, the Parker College of Business, the Waters College of Health Professions and University College, Georgia Southern delivers academic programs backed by real-world experience, research with regional and national impact, and a faculty committed to helping every student go further than they thought possible.
Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and holding specialized accreditation across its professional programs, Georgia Southern prepares graduates who are ready to lead, contribute and soar beyond, in Georgia, across the nation and around the world.

Enterprise Application Service
Job Summary
---------------
This position works closely with business analysts and functional units to design, develop, document, test, and maintain application programs, systems and interfaces that serve students, faculty, and staff across the University.
This role sits at the center of a multi-year modernization. New services are built in TypeScript on Bun and deployed to Azure Kubernetes Service. At the same time, the University is moving reporting and aggregation off Banner local tables and onto PostgreSQL, retiring a long-lived PHP application, and migrating HR and financial integrations from PeopleSoft to Workday.
The developer in this role contributes to new construction and to the safe retirement of what it replaces.
Development on this team is AI-assisted as a matter of daily practice. The incumbent is expected to use those tools fluently and to verify independently what they produce.
Prior experience with Ellucian Banner is not required. Institutional systems knowledge is taught here; modern development practice is what the position is hired for.
This is a fully remote position. The incumbent must reside and work in the states of Georgia, Florida, or South Carolina.
Responsibilities
--------------------
- Design, build, test and maintain the backend services, integrations and interfaces that connect the University's enterprise systems and move data between them. Systems in scope include the Student Information System (Ellucian Banner), HR and financial platforms, and vendor-managed applications used across the institution
- Analyze functional specifications against actual system behavior, and raise gaps, conflicting requirements and unstated assumptions to business analysts and functional owners before development begins. Consult with business analysts and functional users to clarify work requests, contribute to technical design, and document assigned work
- Modernize and retire legacy components, including scheduled batch processes and long-lived application code, without interrupting the services that depend on them
- Work in both Git and Subversion while remaining repositories are migrated to Git, and contribute to that migration
- Participate in code review as both author and reviewer, and write changes that a peer or an automated check can evaluate and maintain. Apply the same review and testing standards to AI-assisted code as to any other change
- Produce technical and operational documentation, particularly for vendor-managed systems whose documented behavior and actual behavior differ
- Work in systems outside a primary area of familiarity, including pairing with or shadowing the developer who supports a system, and document and share working knowledge of the systems this position supports, so that no system depends on a single person
- Apply secure development practices when handling student and employee data, including FERPA and other data privacy obligations
- Provide extended coverage during defined peak processing periods, most significantly the start of the fall term and registration windows
- Plan and carry out deployments outside business hours where a change would otherwise disrupt students or staff, scheduling those windows in advance in coordination with the team

- source, or writing a test, before relying on it
- Demonstrated ability to become productive in an unfamiliar codebase, including where documentation is incomplete, outdated or inaccurate
- Working proficiency with relational databases and SQL, including the ability to write and debug non-trivial queries against a schema the developer did not design, and to review and tune existing queries for correctness and performance
KNOWLEDGE
- Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
- Experience integrating systems across boundaries the developer does not control, using REST, SOAP, file transfer or comparable interfaces
- Experience deploying containerized applications, and working familiarity with an orchestration platform such as Kubernetes
- Professional experience building and maintaining backend services in a modern typed language. TypeScript preferred; equivalent experience in Go, Java, C# or similar will be considered

- Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
