About this role
POSITION SUMMARY
Title: Operations Manager – Janitorial Services
Company: GBC Facility Services
Location: Brickell
Status: Full-time
Schedule: Primarily daytime, with evening, early-morning and weekend availability for night-shift accounts, inspections and urgent issues
Our culture is built on servant leadership. Leaders serve their teams so staff succeed, feel confident and feel appreciated. That is how we keep morale high, turnover low and clients loyal.
We run our operations on GBC Portal, our own real-time platform. It gives clients and managers live visibility into who is on site, what has been cleaned and how every building is performing.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Operations Manager owns day-to-day janitorial service delivery across an assigned portfolio of client sites. You will:
- lead supervisors and cleaning staff
- make sure every building meets GBC’s quality standard every shift
- keep labor and supply costs on budget
You are the bridge between the field and the office. You coach your teams, inspect the work, resolve client issues fast and use GBC Portal data to spot problems before clients do. Success in this role means three things: clients who renew, crews who stay and accounts that run profitably.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery and Quality
- Oversee daily janitorial operations across assigned commercial, multi-residential and institutional accounts, including day porter and night crews.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits; document findings in GBC Portal and drive corrective action to closure.
- Make sure scopes of work, cleaning schedules and specifications are followed at every site.
- Plan and launch new accounts: staffing, scheduling, supplies, equipment and site walk-throughs before day one.
- Coordinate periodic and project work such as floor care, carpet extraction and post-construction cleans.
People Leadership
- Hire, onboard, train and schedule supervisors and cleaning staff in partnership with HR/admin.
- Lead with GBC’s servant-leadership approach: coach, recognize good work and remove obstacles so staff can succeed.
- Cover call-outs and open shifts quickly so no site is left unserviced.
- Handle performance issues, attendance and discipline fairly and consistently, with proper documentation.
- Drive retention by building strong, stable site teams.
Client Relationships
- Serve as a key operational contact for property managers, facility directors and building engineers, working alongside GBC’s account management team.
- Respond to client requests and complaints the same day and follow through until resolved.
- Hold regular walk-throughs and service reviews with clients.
- Identify opportunities for additional services and pass leads to business development.
GBC Portal, Systems and Reporting
- Use GBC Portal daily to monitor who is on site, clock-ins, area scans, before/after photos, inspections and client requests.
- Manage staff, buildings, areas and schedules in the portal and keep data accurate.
- Review and approve timekeeping for payroll; flag missed punches, overtime and exceptions.
- Prepare weekly operational reports on quality, staffing, client issues and costs.
Cost Control and Budgets
- Manage labor hours to budget for each account and control overtime.
- Order and track cleaning supplies, chemicals and equipment; keep inventory and spending in line.
- Help the leadership team price new work by providing site labor estimates and production-rate input.
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce GBC health and safety policies, including chemical handling, SDS, PPE, wet-floor protocols and incident reporting.
- Investigate workplace incidents and injuries, complete reports and support any claims process.
- Make sure staff meet client site requirements such as badging, background checks and site-specific rules.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in commercial janitorial or facility services.
- Proven experience managing multiple sites and multi-shift crews at the same time.
- Strong working knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, equipment and floor care.
- Track record of resolving client issues and retaining accounts.
- Comfortable with mobile apps and web-based operations software; able to learn GBC Portal quickly.
- Solid skills in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace for scheduling and reporting.
- Valid Florida driver’s license, reliable transportation and auto insurance.
- Able to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Flexible availability, including some nights, early mornings and weekends.
Preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience with institutional, multi-residential high-rise or distribution-center accounts.
- Experience managing account labor budgets and supply costs.
- Industry training or certification, such as ISSA CMI, OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
- Experience with janitorial operations software (e.g., timekeeping, inspections, work orders).
Core Competencies
- Leads by serving and coaching, not by fear.
- Calm, decisive problem-solver under pressure.
- High standards and attention to detail.
- Clear, professional communicator with clients and staff.
- Organized and accountable; follows through without reminders.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Split between field work at client sites and office time at headquarters; most days involve driving between sites.
- Regular walking, standing, bending and climbing stairs during inspections; able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals with proper PPE and training.
- On call for urgent site issues on a rotating or as-needed basis.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
