Associate Director of Information Technology

As an operational leader within the Information Technology department, the Associate Director of Information Technology provides day-to-day supervision of IT staff and serves as Fulton-Montgomery Community College's (FMCC) campus information security lead.

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Associate Director translates institutional technology strategy into daily operations — supervising a team of Computer Services Coordinators and a Programmer/Analyst, managing departmental purchasing and budget administration, and owning the campus security program in direct liaison with SUNY's Information Technology Exchange Center (ITEC).

Working collaboratively with the Director of IT/CIO, campus departments, and ITEC, the Associate Director ensures reliable, secure, and responsive technology services for faculty, staff, and students, while building a well-trained, service-oriented IT support team.

Salary Range: $68,287.00 – $74,309.00, comprehensive benefits package, including the New York State Retirement Plan and generous paid time off and holidays.

Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Provide direct day-to-day supervision of Senior Computer Services Coordinators, Computer Services Coordinators, and a Programmer/Analyst, including scheduling, work assignment, and coverage planning.
  • Serve as the College's campus information security lead, owning day-to-day execution of the information security program and serving as FMCC's primary liaison to SUNY ITEC.
  • Administer security tools and controls — including endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication/Conditional Access, vulnerability remediation, and patch management — and lead the technical response to security incidents.
  • Conduct and document periodic risk assessments and security awareness training for faculty, staff, and students, and support compliance with FERPA, the NYS SHIELD Act, GLBA, PCI-DSS, and SUNY information security policy.
  • Manage day-to-day purchasing for the IT department, including quote solicitation, requisitions, and procurement processing, and assist the Director of IT/CIO in developing and monitoring the annual IT operating and capital budget.
  • Track hardware and software licensing, renewals, and warranty/maintenance agreements, and manage relationships with operational technology vendors and service providers.
  • Oversee campus-level application support, including administrative and academic computing systems, and ensure backup, patching, and change-management procedures are followed consistently.
  • Serve as the College's point of coordination with ITEC on network and server infrastructure matters affecting campus operations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development planning for supervised staff, and coordinate on-call/after-hours coverage for campus systems, responding personally to major incidents as needed.
  • Act for the Director of IT/CIO on operational matters in their absence, and perform other comparable duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible information technology experience; demonstrated experience with systems administration and end-user/application support operations; working knowledge of information security practices and frameworks, with experience implementing security controls in a production environment; experience with IT budgeting, purchasing, and vendor/contract coordination; and strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
